tùy theo niềm tin vào Đức Christ, khi chúng ta được cho có quyền “trở thành Con của Thượng Đế, thậm chí cho những kẻ tin vào danh Ngài, họ được sinh ra lần thứ hai, chẳng phải do máu huyết, chẳng phải do ý muốn của nhục thể, hay do ý chí của con người, mà chỉ do Thượng Đế.”(clxv)

Chẳng hợp lý hay sao khi từ những điều nói trên, chúng ta thấy rằng người đến trình độ nhận biết và tin vào Đấng Christ vũ trụ, là “Con Cừu chịu hy sinh từ khi hình thành thế giới,”(clxvi) thì có thể được sinh ra lần thứ hai, vì sự sống của Đấng ấy, vốn làm sinh động mọi hình thể biểu lộ thiêng liêng, bấy giờ có thể hữu ý và chắc chắn đưa y đi tới để biểu hiện thiên tính một cách mới mẻ hơn? “Máu huyết là sự sống,”(clxvii) và chính Đức Christ hằng sống giúp cho tất cả chúng ta trở thành công dân của Thiên giới. Chính sự sống của Đức Christ trong mỗi chúng ta khiến chúng ta là con của Đấng Cha Lành, chứ chẳng phải sự chết của Ngài đã làm điều đó. Không nơi nào trong câu chuyện Phúc âm lại tán thành lời phát biểu trái ngược vừa kể. Trong lễ ban thánh thể, Đức Christ trao chén rượu cho các môn đồ uống, và nói “Đây là máu huyết trong sự giao ước mới của ta, đổ ra cho nhiều người được xá tội.”(clxviii) Thế nhưng, nói lên những lời này, Ngài chỉ nói đến máu huyết để cứu chuộc, vốn được nhấn mạnh rất nhiều trong Thư các Sứ đồ. Vì ở bất cứ đâu chính Ngài cũng không hề nói đến sự liên hệ của máu huyết ấy với Thập giá hình. Ngài cũng không khiến cho máu huyết ấy trở thành một yếu tố loại trừ mà vốn rất rõ nét trong việc trình bày Thiên Chúa giáo trên thế giới.
Is it not reasonable for us to gather from these words that when a man reaches the point of recognising and believing in the cosmic Christ, “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world,” (clxvi) then the new birth becomes possible, for the life of that universal Christ, animating every form of divine expression, can then consciously and definitely carry the man forward into a new manifestation of divinity? The “blood is the life,” (clxvii) and it is the living Christ that makes it possible for all to become citizens of that kingdom. It is the life of Christ in each of us which makes us sons of the Father, not His death which makes us sons. Nowhere in the Gospel story does an opposite statement find support. Christ, at the communion service, gave His disciples the cup to drink, saying “This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” (clxviii) But these are His only references to blood in its remedial aspect, so strongly emphasised in the Epistles, and He Himself nowhere correlates blood with the Crucifixion. He speaks in the present tense, and does not relate the blood to the new birth or to the Crucifixion, or make it a factor in the exclusiveness which has so deeply coloured the presentation of Christianity in the world.
