34. Những tư tưởng trái với yoga là ý muốn gây tổn hại, sự giả dối, trộm cắp, buông lung tình dục, và tham vọng. Dù là đích thân vi phạm, sai khiến hay thuận cho người khác vi phạm. Dù là phát sinh từ tính tham lam, giận dữ hay ảo tưởng (vô minh). Dù vi phạm nhẹ, vừa phải hay nặng. Các vi phạm này bao giờ cũng gây nên vô vàn đau khổ và sự vô minh. Vì thế, cần phải vun bồi những tư tưởng ngược lại.
34. Thoughts contrary to yoga are harmfulness, falsehood, theft, incontinence, and avarice, whether committed personally, caused to be committed or approved of, whether arising from avarice, anger or delusion (ignorance); whether slight in the doing, middling or great. These result always in excessive pain and ignorance. For this reason, the contrary thoughts must be cultivated.
Cần lưu ý rằng năm Giới răn nói trên cụ thể nhắm đến “những tư tưởng trái với yoga” hay sự hợp nhất. Vì thế, việc tuân hành các Giới răn này sẽ mang lại:
It will be noted that the five Commandments deal specifically with those “thoughts contrary to yoga” or union, and that the keeping of the Commandments will bring about:
a. Tính không gây tổn hại thay vì gây hại,
a. Harmlessness instead of harmfulness,
b. Sự chân thật thay vì giả dối,
b. Truth instead of falsehood,
c. Cuộc sống lương thiện thay vì trộm cắp,
c. Abstention from theft instead of stealing,
d. Sự tự chủ thay vì buông lung tình dục,
d. Self-control instead of incontinence,
e. Sự an vui, hài mãn thay vì tham lam hay thèm muốn. Người chí nguyện không còn tìm cách bào chữa cho mình.
e. Contentment instead of avarice or covetousness.
Y ghi nhớ sự thật là mọi sai phạm các Giới răn đều mang lại hậu quả, dù vi phạm nhiều hay ít. một “tư tưởng sai trái” tất sẽ mang lại hậu quả, và hậu quả này có hai mặt: sự đau khổ, và vô minh hay ảo tưởng. Có ba từ mà người môn sinh huyền bí dùng để chỉ về tam giới:
No excuse is left to the aspirant, and the truth is borne in on him that transgression of the Commandments is equally productive of results whether the violation is trifling or very great.
