Tất nhiên, có những lối tinh luyện khác nhau liên quan đến bốn hạ thể (gồm thể xác, thể dĩ thái, thể tình cảm, và thể trí) mà mỗi người sử dụng để giao tiếp khi hoạt động trong tam giới. Chúng có thể được phân biệt như sau:
Purification is necessarily of various kinds and relates to the four vehicles (the physical body, the etheric body, the emotional body and the mental body) through which man contacts the three worlds of his endeavor. We might, therefore, distinguish between them as follows:
a. Thanh khiết bên ngoài ……….. thể xác ……….. thể thô đặc,
a. External purity………….. physical vehicle ………… dense body,
b. Thanh khiết từ điện …………… thể dĩ thái ……. thanh khiết bên trong,
b. Magnetic purity…………etheric vehicle……………. internal purity,

c. Psychic purity………….. astral vehicle …………….. emotional purity,
d. Thanh khiết của trí …………….. thể trí ………….. thanh khiết của trí cụ thể.
d. Mental purity…………… mental vehicle ……………. purity of the concrete mind.
Cần lưu ý kỹ rằng sự thanh khiết này liên quan đến chất liệu được dùng để kiến tạo các thể nói trên. Chúng ta đạt được sự thanh khiết bằng ba cách:
It should be most carefully borne in mind that this purity concerns the substance out of which each of these vehicles is composed. It is attained in three ways:
1. Loại bỏ chất liệu không thanh khiết hay là các nguyên tử và phân tử vốn hạn chế sự phát biểu tự do của tinh thần. Chúng giam hãm tinh thần trong hình thể, khiến tinh thần không thể tự do ra, vào;
1. Elimination of impure substance or of those atoms and molecules which limit the free expression of spirit, and which confine it to the form so that it can have neither free ingress nor egress;
2. Hấp thu những nguyên tử và phân tử có khuynh hướng tạo nên một thể mà qua đó tinh thần có thể hoạt động như ý muốn;
2. Assimilation of those atoms and molecules which will tend to provide a form through which spirit can adequately function;
3. Bảo vệ thể đã được tinh luyện khỏi bị ô nhiễm và suy biến.
3. The protection of the purified form from contamination and deterioration.
Trên Con Đường Tinh luyện hay Dự bị, tiến trình loại trừ này khởi đầu. Trên Con Đường Đệ tử, hành giả học được các qui luật cho tiến trình kiến tạo hay hấp thu. Trên Con Đường Điểm đạo (sau cuộc điểm đạo thứ hai,) việc bảo vệ bắt đầu.
