- Possessions, personal resources.
- Personal money, personal business matters, gains and losses.
- Our values - material and spiritual.
The second house represents what we desire and value, the energies that we use to get what we want and resources that we materialise to achieve this. It generally governs money, gold and other symbols of wealth.
The way the personality values money and material possessions and goes after them, is shaped by the sign on the house cusp, its ruling planct and any planets in the house. They also indicate whether the pursuit of material fortune will be easy or hard. For instance, Jupiter in the second house trine Mars in the 10th, promises an easy flow of money from actions taken in the career.
If we are fearful about the world and are afraid that material deprivation will leave us vulnerable to be hurt and exploited, this house will represent the struggle undertaken to acquire possessions and material security. If our identity merges with our “things”, if we become possessed by what we own, we will fight to protect them as if they were our very life.
The higher goal of the 2nd, is to help us transform our values from those that are purely selfish and material, to those that are inclusive and embracing of the higher and finer things in life. At this level, it represents how a source of spiritual income can be generated so that we have abundant resources to share in selfless service.
