14a. Ceres in the Signs.

Ceres is the Goddess of the Harvest and from that angle, represents how loving attention and care can bring to fruition, a bounteous crop. The analogy to human relationships is clear. In the chart, Ceres represents the type of nurturing we received when we were children and consequently, the self-esteem we developed and then as adults - the type of nurturing we give to others.

Ceres in Aries. A home-life where we are encouraged to be independent, to explore and be adventurous, will help boost self-esteem. This nurturing style passed on will similarly build confidence in others who come into our care. If, however there was rough treatment or abuse, this development will be stifled, resulting in feelings of shame, intense anger, resentment and explosive outbursts. This should be healed so that the same abuses are not passed on.

Ceres in Taurus. The development of self-worth requires tangible demonstrations of appreciation and affection and for home life to be stable and secure with all the basic necessities being provided. This nurturing style passed on to others will likewise give a sense of security. If, however, there were insufficient resources, money and food, a fear about not having enough, then a compulsion to keep acquiring things as a safety bulwark against the insecurities of life may develop. A greater appreciation of one's own fineness of character and intrinsic worth will be healing.

Ceres in Gemini. Self-esteem will develop if we live in an environment where healthy discussion is encouraged and people listen to - and respect, what we say. Good communication and speaking words of encouragement is essential with this nurturing style. Journeys to places of interest will also be beneficial and will help spark a curiosity about life and interest in others. However, if freedom of speech is met with reprisals and threats, it will result in a fear of speaking up for oneself when it is appropriate to do so.

Ceres in Cancer. Sensitivity, empathy, understanding, having one's emotional needs acknowledged and provided; these are required at home for healthy self-esteem to grow. If, however, there was emotional coldness and rejection, the result will be low self-worth and a deep distrust of intimacy and closeness. Emotional shields will be put up for self-protection. If this has happened, healing should be administered so that similar rejections are not passed on. This nurturing style is empathetic, inclusive and caring.

Ceres in Leo. Good self-worth develops if those we live with are generous with their love, attention and praise and home is filled with fun, creative activities and encouragement to star and shine. This nurturing style passed on to others - especially children, will likewise boost their confidence and ability to go forwards into life. But if there was bullying and humiliation, sensitive feelings will be suppressed for protection and this will have serious implications in relationships and on health. To reverse this, inner healing will have to occur.

Ceres in Virgo. Those with this combination prefer an environment that is well organised, which is clean and hygienic. If there is also praise given for carrying out one's duties meticulously, then self-esteem will flourish. However, unrelenting criticism and judgment in early home life will destroy faith in oneself. This can give rise to an obsession about needing to be perfect, to get everything right - perfectionist tendencies. The goal is to learn to love and appreciate one's goodness and helpfulness, which this combination fosters.

Ceres in Libra. Self-esteem develops in a family atmosphere of peace, beauty and harmony, where we are listened to, are treated fairly and receive love and attention. This nurturing style passed on will foster harmony and balance in all our important relationships. If, however, there was conflict and uncertainty, a fear of intimacy could result and an inability to form harmonious unions. If so, attention should be given to heal this so true happiness with others can be experienced,

Ceres in Scorpio. Self-esteem would develop in a family atmosphere of unwavering emotional support and trust and where parents fought when necessary to protect the family's wellbeing. The same intense attention and unwavering support given to others will be similarly encouraging. However, if home was filled with danger and fear because of abuse, it is vital that any resultant trauma is healed so that the same abuses are not passed on to others.

Ceres in Sagittarius. A home life filled with laughter, adventure and encouragement to go out into the world and explore will result in self-worth and confidence. This murturing style passed on to others will similarly help to instil an expanded and positive outlook. If, however, there was an abrogation of duties at home because a parent or carer was irresponsible, it could result in a fear of being trapped in a similar domestic situation. Consequently, commitments could be avoided.

Ceres in Capricorn. A family environment where everything is properly structured and organised and everyone has their duties and place will help the development of good self-worth and a responsible attitude to life. The same nurturing style passed on will have a beneficial structuring effect on other people's lives. However, if there was strict discipline without love, so that life was harsh and unforgiving, self-esteem will drop. If so, healing of the inner-child is required so that the same abuses are not passed on.

Ceres in Aquarius. A home life that is friendly, where independence is encouraged and there is lively discussion and sharing of ideas, this will help develop healthy self-worth. If however, one was forced to be independent and self-sufficient because support from others was not forth-coming; low self-esteem could be the result. Additionally, the emotions could be suppressed to avoid being hurt again. In such a case, the inner trauma should be healed so that happy and healthy relationships can be formed in the future.

Ceres in Pisces. Healthy self-worth will flourish if home life is emotionally nurturing and there is compassion and kindness. If, however, in early life there was family irresponsibility with broken promises, lies and addictions those with this combination can grow up confused and have difficulty establishing healthy emotional boundaries. Such traumas must be healed so that similar abuses are not passed on.
