In our psychology, the Moon represents our emotional habits and expressions. Esoterically, the Moon Sign represents the “prison of the soul pattern”, the negative core beliefs that cause conflict with others and that hinder our spiritual progress. The task is to eliminate them by developing the higher sign traits.

Moon in Aries. The problem pattern is one of fast, unthinking and aggressive emotional reactions. The ego is hot-headed. It acts with blind and unthinking aggression and throws tantrums if anything or anyone blocks its way. The goal is to develop the intellect and use it to control the rash emotional impulses. Success will enable the positive strengths of Aries to be used to create dynamic and passionate connections with others.

Moon in Taurus. Uncontrolled desire, is the problem pattern. The “bull” goes after what it wants in a stubborn and destructive manner, creating chaos. Change will come when there is an intelligent study of cause and effect, how choices made under the sway of desire are a cause of trouble and steps are taken to moderate any excesses. Success brings out the positive qualities and strengths of Taurus - the power to stand strong and steadfast in the face of opposition and to build personal relationships that are light-filled, stable and beautiful.

Moon in Gemini. The problem pattern is a restless mind that trivialises, that is shallow and changeable, that lacks empathy and deceives people. Greater depth is required in all interactions and follow-through, so that ideas are manifested in some constructive and beneficial way. Success will give the power to communicate thoughts with greater clarity and empathy to the public. The response will be positive and encouraging feedback.

Moon in Cancer. Extreme defensiveness and sensitivity that leads to emotional isolation, is the problem pattern. The development goal is to develop healthy emotional expression and build a clear and lighted consciousness. This requires the development of the intelligence and balancing of the emotions. Success will give expression to the positive strengths of Cancer - power to reach out to people with love and sensitivity and ability to build light-filled and nurturing personal relationships.

Moon in Leo. The binding pattern with this combination, is that of wanting to control everyone and everything and being bullying and arrogant. The development goal is to lift the eyes from the little self to the higher spiritual Self. This will shift the focus away from the ego to the soul, the wisdom-self. The emotional nature will be purified and lightened. Success will give the ability to create personal relationships that are filled with fiery love and warmth, that are selfless and sharing.

Moon in Virgo. An emotional need to criticise people, is the problem pattern. This infects the mind, so it becomes hypercritical and demands perfection in this imperfect world. An alignment affirmation that can bring change is, “Christ in you the hope of glory.” It trains the mind to see the good in people - something that Virgo's need to develop. Success will enable the positive strengths of Virgo intelligence and kindness; to be expressed in all relationships and interactions so that people feel good about themselves.

Moon in Libra. The problem pattern (if it has not been sorted out already), is unbalanced fiery passion and shallow, frivolous living. Another way this combination works, is “playing it safe”, being unwilling to create a fuss in case people are disapproving. The intelligence must be used to balance the emotions and overcome any fears that inhibit. When this is achieved, the positive qualities of Libra will shine forth through the astral nature, giving the power to create relationships that are beautiful in their power to nurture people.

Moon in Scorpio. Delusion, seeing only what one wants to see, being continually at war with everyone around, this is the problem pattern. This occurs because the emotions and desires are too powerful and distort reality. Additionally, perceived injuries are remembered and revenge attacks are continually being planned. The development goal is to lift the mind up into the light of wisdom - above the battlefield, and to look at life again through the eyes of truth. This will develop a clear and insightful intelligence, with power to build relationships that are deep, authentic and truthful.

Moon in Sagittarius. Being driven blindly by the lower appetites is the problem. There is a too powerful desire for excess consumption (food, drink, sex), for freedom from all discipline, and an emotionally fuelled tendency to gossip and wound through speech. The development goal is to purify the desire life so that the mind can be free to focus on higher and more aspirational goals. Success will enable the positive strengths of Sagittarius to shine forth - an aspiration for that which is higher and finer; and the power to build emotional relationships that are founded on true friendship and shared ideals.

Moon in Capricorn. The problem-pattern is being ruthless, calculating and cunning to get one's way. Emotional expression is difficult in this sign of detriment for the Moon - caused by a lack of nurturing from carers in childhood. This will cause major problems in intimate relationships until healed. The development goal is to get in touch with the feelings and be more emotionally responsive to intimate partners and with the family. Success will give the power to found relationships on a bedrock of integrity and trust.

Moon in Aquarius. Separativeness, due to being too mental, individualistic and isolated from feelings and human intimacy, is the problem pattern. The goal is to learn to think with the heart, and feel with the mind and a scientific-like program should be followed to bring about this development. Success will free the positive strengths of Aquarius - the ability to make friends anywhere and at any level of society. Personal relationships will be founded on deep friendship and inclusive kindness.

Moon in Pisces. Although there is a natural ability to connect spiritually and emotionally with people and power to build relationships that are founded on openhearted trust and unconditional love; this will be sabotaged because of the problem pattern. It consists of being too emotional, having a consciousness that is too fluid and ungrounded, being subject to delusion because there is a lack of discernment and being too attached to life comforts. The intellect needs to be developed, healthy emotional boundaries constructed and the life guided more intelligently in the future. This will empower any service activities.
