6b. Mars in the Houses.
Mars' house represents a life arca of major conflict. This is where the desires are very strong and therefore where the ego will fight to get what it wants. This is where we must guard against unthinking emotional impulses and learn to think before we act.
Mars in 1. The ego is courageous, a fighter, and has a tremendous drive to succeed in life. But undisciplined, there is anger and an impulse to attack - oneself or others. This must be curbed and the means to achieve this is through the illumined mind - achieved by life-experience and the desire for continual self-improvement. Then, Mars' fiery force can be harnessed and directed wisely to achieve higher ideals and goals.
Mars in 2. There is a desire to possess everything and everyone, to fight for money and gain. The ego measures its self-worth by its material acquisitions: more money - higher esteem, no money - being worthless. Lower and selfish values and ideals need to be replaced with higher ones. This will bring in abundant energy, prosperity and a desire to fight for the greater prosperity of all.
Mars in 3. Undisciplined fiery passion in the house of communication can result in an angry “motor-mouth” with no filters - firing off attack words without thought of how they hurt or wound. The goal is to think before speaking, especially with siblings, neighbours and relatives. Positively harnessed, there is tremendous energy and enthusiasm to help people in the local environment and to communicate thoughts in a positive way.
Mars in 4. There is war at home. The urge to fight and win arguments with family will create disruption and separations. Some may suffer serious abuse due to evilness being passed down the family line. Either way, the negative patterns must be healed. Fighting for one's right to be free from control and abuse is a good way to use this energy. When successful, there will be a tremendous drive and power to build and maintain a happy family, home, community or spiritual ashram.
Mars in 5. There is trouble with children or lovers when the ego goes on the warpath in this life area. Projecting anger onto children, younger souls or onto lovers will ruin relationships. These impulses must be transmuted and when successful, there will be abundant energy available to bring joy to the lives of loved ones, or to be directed into creative projects, sports, adventures or other pleasurable pastimes.
Mars in 6. Conflict and disruptions at work will erupt when Mars is in the 6th. But projecting one's unhappiness, blame and anger onto co-workers, will bring a backlash. The long-term result could be headaches, inflammations and other disruptions to health. To avoid this, troubled emotions and anger patterns should be healed. When successful, there will be tremendous energy and vitality to benefit health and the career.
Mars in 7. Fights, urges to control, and blame being projected onto the partner will be the norm until the cause - anger over being hurt in the past; is healed. Wise counselling is required and restraint when the urge to attack starts to rise. The energy should be re-directed into physical activities and adventures that couples can enjoy. Wisely used, Mars' warmth and passion can keep marriages vital and sensual.
Mars in 8. Transformation is required if there are unhealthy sexual predilections or force is being misused in some other way. The desires and emotions need purifying and re-directing into healthier or more positive avenues. The 8th also rules psychology and esoteric sciences and the study of such subjects and self-application of their techniques; these will help to bring about the inner changes. This combination gives great energy and enthusiasm for healthy change. There may be battles over resources and legacies.
Mars in 9. Battles over morals and principles are the rule with Mars in the house of higher learning and wisdom. Some with this combination may become involved with cults and suffer abuse, others may find themselves at war with religious teachings or personnel. Energies should be diverted from fighting teachers or hating those who are different, to expanding one's understanding, knowledge and wisdom. There is a love of travel and a great sense of adventure.
Mars in 10. War with a parent, at work and with authority figures generally, will cause disruptions in the career until anger over being mistreated when in a vulnerable state (often in childhood), is healed. Some with this placement may choose a career that is influenced by Mars, such as becoming a mechanic or user of technology, be involved with automobiles, the military, surgery or hairdressing. Positively, there is tremendous energy and enthusiasm available to create a successful career.
Mars in 11. Fighting with friends or associates in groups and organisations will occur. This is a consequence of anger, the result of unresolved resentments, hurts and grievances from the past being projected onto social associates or organisations. When these are healed, tremendous energy and enthusiasm will be available to pour into favourite causes or group adventures. Some with this combination may become political or revolutionary warriors.
Mars in 12. There is anger in the unconscious, a consequence of past-life abuse. There may be self-harming such as cutting or hitting oneself. These need to be healed to avoid recreating similar events in future lives. If abuse is currently taking place or it occurred in childhood, it is important to bring it into the light so that abusers can be punished and wounds can be healed. On a positive level, there is much energy and enthusiasm available to help people who have been side-lined by life, to pour into private projects that benefit people.
