The aspect grid is usually under or beside the natal chart. Prince George's chart is used in the explanation. Each planet has a row and a column.

When two planets are in aspect, the square in the grid where they intersect - by row and column; it shows the aspect. If the square is empty, there is no aspect. But it must be remembered that we key into the computer, our preferences for the aspects - which ones we wish to see and the orb. Four examples are given below.

• The aspects of the Moon:
  • It is opposition the Sun (⚯)
  • is inconjunct Venus (⚻)
  • is square Saturn (□)
  • is sextile the ASC (ascendant) (⚹)
  • is trine the MC (Midheaven) (△).

• The aspects of the Sun:
  • It is opposition the Moon.
  • is square Saturn (□)
  • is trine the ASC (△).

• The aspects of Uranus: it is square to Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Pluto.
• The aspects of the Ascendant: it is sextile the Moon, trine the Sun, square Venus and Neptune; and is semi-square Pluto.

Applying and Separating Aspects. The faster planets move towards the slower planets, make aspects with them, then move away again.

• 1. When a faster planet moves towards a slower planet to form an aspect (and is in orb of that aspect), this aspect is called “applying”; the exact aspect has not yet been formed. Life events begin with an applying aspect. They keep building and unfolding during this period and the outcome can still be influenced.
• 2. In Prince George's grid, you will notice that under each aspect symbol, there are figures and an “A” or “S”. For example, “1A41” for the Moon-Sun opposition, which means the Moon is applying to the Sun, and is 1 degree 41 minutes from the exact aspect.
• 3. When the exact aspect is made (both planets are at the same degree), the experience peaks.
• 4. When a faster moving planet begins to move away from the exact aspect to a slower moving planet - but is still in orb; this is called a “separating” aspect. The energies are dissipating. Now we are dealing with the aftermath of any experiences that began in relation to the aspect. Once the planet has moved beyond the orb of influence, technically, the aspect has finished. However, if serious trauma is involved the aftermath of the event can extend for weeks, months or years.
• 5. In the chart, there is a separating aspect between Mars and Jupiter (“OS08”), which means Mars is 8 minutes past the exact conjunction with Jupiter.
• 6. Sometimes the faster planet moves over the slower planet, goes retrograde for a period (reversing backwards over it), then moves forwards again to re-cross the slower planet. This drags out the whole experience, which lasts as long as the whole aspect period lasts.
