2. Primary or Solar-Arc Directions

1. Definition and purpose. The purpose of this system is identical to Secondary Progressions. “Solar-arc directions” refers to an astrology method of determining the internal developments of the birth pattern for any given age in the life.

2. How solar-arc directions work. The entire chart rotates as a unit, moves forwards through the signs and houses at the same rate as the Sun. The Sun progresses onc degree or more accurately, 59 minutes, each year. This means the entire chart just progresses forwards, one degree (almost) a year. This makes the system easy to use. The positions of the solar-arc planets can be figured out quickly, without needing to make a calculation.

3. How solar-arc directions are used. The greatest usefulness of directions (along with the simplicity of timing), is that the outer planets come into play. They bring their influences to bear on the natal chart, which is not done with secondary progressions. This is especially useful for instance with health. Aspects being made from directed malefics are often involved when a serious health crisis hits.
