INCLUSIVE REASON,

PURPOSE, SYNTHESIS, AND THE COMING ONE Jo Garceau

INTRODUCTION

One morning many years ago, I walked in a thick fog at tide’s edge. As I waded in the chilly water at the evanescent line where the stream met the rippling tide, a concave seashell with a tiny hole at its center rolled to rest at my feet. I leaned over to pick it up, and as I straightened, my boundaries vanished. For a mini-second, sea, sky, sand, shell, and I merged.

One with the Universe,

One with Love,

One with Stillness by the Sea.

The Rings of my Shell expand out Infinitely,

Return Light, Transcendence, Peace,

In an Ambience of Fog.

Half on Land, Half at Sea,

Suspended Between.

Knowing. Sharing. Caring. Thou.

I lost myself and felt blissful unity in that one split moment, lost the sense of personal self and became one with the entirety of creation, one with Life Itself. I felt a completion beyond anything I had ever conceived. Nothing prepared me for this sense of Wholeness.

I began seeking ways to duplicate the ecstatic oneness of that brief instant. Life, Beingness, is what we are all looking for.

About Life, The Old Commentary says:

The sound reverberated amidst varying wheels of uncreated matter; and lo, the sun and all the lesser wheels appeared. The light shone forth amidst the many

wheels, and thus the many forms of God, the diverse aspects of his radiant robe blazed forth.

The vibrant palpitating wheels turned over. Life, in its many stages and in its many grades commenced the process of unfolding, and lo, the law began to work. Forms arose, and disappeared, but life moved on. Kingdoms arose, holding their many forms which drew together, turned together, and later separated, but still the life moved on.

Mankind, hiding the Son of God, the Word incarnate, broke forth into the light of revelation. Races appeared and disappeared. The forms, veiling the radiant soul, emerged, achieved their purpose and vanished into night, but lo, the life moved on, blended this time with light. Life merged with light, both blending to reveal a beauty and a power, an active liberating force, a wisdom and a love that we call a Son of God.

Through the many Sons of God, who in their inmost centre are but one, God in his Fatherhood is known. Yet still that lighted life moved on to a dread point of power, of force creative, concerning which we say: It is the All, the Container of the Universe, the persistent centre of the Spheres, the One.1

As a practical mystic, I suggest Inclusive Reason,2the topic of this paper, and a goal of not only Humanity, but all Creation, is just that: a Wholeness that knows and loves. It’s love and wisdom, Ray 2, in this second version of the Solar system. Inclusive Reason is closely related to the 14th Rule for Applicants: “Listen, touch, see, apply, know.” 3

Inclusive Reason is a quality we all have, whether actualized or waiting for discovery in the hidden unconscious. When the antahkarana, that necessary bridge to the soul and the Higher Self beyond is developed, the path to Inclusive Reason – indeed to Oneness and Unity with God – becomes available to each of us.

One morning recently I entered the kitchen after a night’s sleep. On the windowsill behind a multicolored glass collection arranged to catch sunbeams, a four-inch long brown and beige sparrow fluttered. I captured the bird in a dish towel and gently released her into flight from the patio. As I did so, I thought, “Building the antahkarana is like that, setting the bird of awareness, the integrated soul/personality, free to fly in ever more subtle realms.” Birds, indeed, are close to the Kingdom of Angels.

Inclusive Reason includes more and more awareness as the antahkarana extends. Certainly, it is the consciousness of members of the Hierarchy; it is Christ Consciousness; the purview of Sanat Kumara; the Solar Logos; a planet; a constellation; our galaxy including the Great Bear, the Pleiades, and Sirius; and of He About Whom Naught May be Said. All creation seeks Unity, seeks Consciousness and Life as One in the fullest sense.

Attesting to the human drive to find unity, just the other day, I came upon a map that echoed the map used by Kabbalists. The intricate design hypothesized the next dimension beyond the Milky Way, a cluster of galaxies of which ours is a part.4 The author, Jose Arguelles, included a layout in the frontispiece to his book, Surfers of the Suvuja, Tales of Interdimensional Travel, which echoes the Kabbala map of awareness on the next higher dimension. The drawing may be considered to offer a different approach to He About Whom Naught May Be Said.

In the Catholic Catechism, the faith in which I grew up, the approach to inclusion, unity, and beingness offers the candidate for Baptism or First Communion a worded explanation of man’s relationship with the ineffable. Here the spiritual candidate is asked, “Why did God make you?” The applicant replies, “God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him, so that I may be in Heaven with Him forever.” 5

That concept was very likely foundational in the religion of your childhood. Even if you were not brought up in a religion, spirituality is inherent in whatever belief system is embraced.6 Awe, Joy, Bliss, Oneness, Beingness and as many other names as one can conjure are our ultimate end goal, but how do we get there?

God’s Plan—our plan—includes every aspect of the entire creation—every part. For this paper, let us confine ourselves to the part Earth plays—every kingdom from the lowest to the highest, Mineral, Plant, Animal, Humanity, Hierarchy, Shamballa, and Earth itself. We serve the Plan of God, eventually joining solar, cosmic and supercosmic communities beyond, all working together to become One Creation, all heading for the Omega point proposed by Teilhard de Chardin and others.7

Rule 4 for Applicants for Initiation states, “Sound, light, vibration, and the form blend and merge, and thus the work is one. It proceedeth under the law, and naught can hinder now the work from going forward. The man breathes deeply. He concentrates his forces and drives the thought-form from him.” 8

The Tibetan reminds us in his discussion of Rule 4, “The Masters are looking out for those with clear vision, uncompromising adherence to the truth as sensed, and capacity to drive steadily

forward toward the ideal.”9 For this, we build the antahkarana; this is why we serve, why we individualize, integrate our many selves into a personality, yield personality to soul, identify with the Spiritual Triad, the Monad, with the New Group of World Servers, an ashram, and Sanat Kumara. We want to serve; we seek Union.

Alice Bailey tells us in Intellect to Intuition,

There will emerge a new race, with new capacities, new ideals, new concepts about God and matter, about life and Spirit. Through that race and through the humanity of the future there will be seen not only a mechanism and a structure, but a soul, an entity, who, using the mechanism, will manifest its own nature, which is love, wisdom and intelligence.10

Early in 2021, as approaches to fusion in the Spiritual Triad based on one’s soul ray were introduced in Year Three of Morya Federation’s Quest Universal studies, I thought Inclusive Reason might be the topic for this long paper. What follows is material gathered from numerous sources, summarized to reflect both head and heart responses. These resources include, as you will see, in no particular order, the blue books, internet posts, Morya study materials and webinars, especially those by Michael Robbins. This paper is speculative, one which I hope you will study, interact with, and make suggestions for improvement in both detail and whole content including especially the conclusions.

To begin, we review 1) the steps on the path that take us to fusion of the qualities of the Spiritual Triad and 2) available mental tools and concepts that help the thinker/viewer grasp the vast, subtle spiritual world. It is hoped this inclusive approach will demonstrate the tools and concepts Inclusive Reason utilizes. It would be well to keep in mind as you read this section that the buddhic nature, the world of Inclusive Reason, continually coalesces detailed disparate ideas into a whole. In time, depending upon the impression, an image in the mind almost instantly becomes a concrete thought in the brain. An instant segue occurs from image to idea to plan and creation.

We then briefly consider Rays 1 and 3 fusions before examining comprehensively the Technique of Fusion for Ray 2, Inclusive Reason. The conclusion examines preparations underway in the ashrams of the Hierarchy, a new yoga of Synthesis, and the coming of the Avatar of Synthesis.

PLAN AND PURPOSE

“From the center where the will of God is known, may purpose guide the little wills of men, the purpose which the masters know and serve.” 11 Plan belongs to God; purpose is known by the Hierarchy and our solar angels.

One Sunday afternoon when I was a little kid, my brothers and I were reprimanded while visiting relatives. I had just been told I would skip the fourth grade that summer, and I smugly thought, “Well, I’m pretty smart; I didn’t do it.” Out of nowhere it seemed, a voice in my head, which I later decided must have been the voice of my guardian angel, spoke. She said being smart meant I was to help people, help them know how special each one is, and that everyone has a gift to share.

Nothing had prepared me for that voice; but I believed It.

You and I have purpose.

The Tibetan tells us we each have a soul; we are gifted; we can serve the Plan, can help make it real in the world. Purpose is our dharma, our matrix, an archetypal expression of life intent. Intent, I think, changes as our awareness shifts, especially as we follow the spiritual path Djwhal Khul and Alice Bailey painstakingly provide for us in the Blue Books.

CONCEPTS AND TOOLS

Groups

When we grasp that we’ve been in groups from the beginning of our soul adventure eons ago, an exponential shift in awareness begins. I remember being five years old, sitting in a church pew, watching an entire congregation advance one by one to the communion rail and wondering when I could join in. In other words, I wondered when I would join the group.

It’s easy to forget we are all members of a very large group called Humanity, all part of the history of men and women advancing through the ages from pre-human life to individualization to expressing emotion and thinking and having higher aspirations. Some of us intuitively retain portions of our awareness of the kingdoms preceding the Human, even to the extent of valuing and seeking the assistance of those realms.

Meditation/Building the Antahkarana

In the last one hundred years, meditation has become popular around the world, I think to an extent never before known. The east had long meditated, but the west not so much until people like Paramahansa Yogananda and Swami Vivekananda of the Ramakrishna Order and others came to the west to teach, bringing technology and inner awareness together. In the long history of the race and individuals, and in meditation too, milestones occur.

Milestones: (A tentative roadmap to be corroborated by personal experience.) Animal awareness, especially herd instinct

Personal Awareness

Awareness of something beyond oneself (or one’s group), which in time becomes first the soul and much later an awareness that groups have soul. (Eventually, we realize the soul we thought was ours alone is in fact one soul shared by all.)

Recognizing physical, astral, and mental levels of personality (and later) awareness that groups develop similar levels.

Consolidation of the lower triad into one unit, the personality. The sense of a higher self/soul develops simultaneously with the integration of personality. At the same time, one is becoming aware of one’s social role, i.e., groups. In fact, the concept of group is a later development of the herd instinct of animals. Increasingly, we discover that spiritual groups relate on the level of manas. Most importantly, one becomes aware of the gap between soul and personality and the spiritual triad and begins to build the antahkarana.

Building the Antahkarana. As one stills the lower triad and integrates the physical/etheric, astral, and lower mental planes into the personality, one becomes aware of an advancing tension point with more expansion to follow. The gap exists and for a long period concentration combined with determination (Will!) creates a point of tension. One desires to reach a sense of oneness and pushes on until at last the gap is closed. Now one may contemplate in the silence of the soul. Too soon, one sometimes thinks, higher energies ceaselessly beckon. In retrospect, in time, we marvel at the persistence of the soul in its many guises.

Recognition of the Higher Triad. As the antahkarana is built, one is increasingly aware of the three aspects of the higher, spiritual triad: the levels of abstract thinking and creative imagination, buddhi, and atma.

Fusion of personality and soul, Transfiguration.

Identification with the abstract mind, of creative imagination, marks the first point of the Higher Triad. Identification with the buddhic plane of love and wisdom marks the second point. Identification of self as one with the aspects of the Spiritual Triad leads to the third initiation. So many aspirants and disciples now exist, that all initiations are made in one’s group, excepting some of the more advanced initiations.

Higher Triad becomes the Monad. We discover that Life, what we originally began with prior to consciousness and individualization, closely relates to Beingness, Livingness, and vibration. From the beginning, Life carries Light, Will and Purpose and Reason (manas). Life invites synthesis and a return to Oneness, to Union with the Divine. Life—Beingness—is at our very core, the heart of us, since time began, and certainly at conception. Life and matter form a duality, a subtle and all-important shift from fusing two like energies to duality working in unison.

The Deva Kingdom

As we journey through life, we become aware of multitudes of helpers of varying ranks from a parallel realm, the Deva Kingdom. Hidden from us, that teeming-with-activity realm is filled with multitudes, some just beginning their evolution, others vastly powerful and active, each in their way. Master Serapis Bey has a special mission to work with them, to bring about a closer relationship between the Deva and Human kingdoms.

Intuition suggests this closer working relationship will become a veritable flood of interconnection as the Age of Aquarius comes in towards the end of the 21st century, just as the Avatar of Synthesis makes His appearance. Because the angels work with sound and we with light, one imagines a wholesome combining of two aspects of the Divine.

As an aspirant, disciple or initiate grows in awareness, he or she recognizes angels of varying power guiding, protecting, and assisting. Among them are builders who assist in the formation of ideas and give them substance in the physical etheric world. The Guardian Angel introduced to us as small children is perhaps the most familiar. Two others are the Solar Angel who connects us intimately to the entire solar system and the Angel of the Presence, Who hints of the glory of the highest expression of God. No matter how hidden the Deva Kingdom, the angels are far more advanced than Humanity and it is to them we turn for guidance and help.

Tools: (Many are not listed; some, Djwhal Khul tells us, are yet beyond our comprehension.)

Personal experience suggests the mystic and the occultist eventually form a unity; thus, an individual on the soft line of rays 2, 4 and 6 may tend to mysticism in the early path and later add the hard line of rays 1, 3, 5, and 7. Equally true, there are individuals who begin with keen manas and later include soft rays. Even more likely, I believe, an individual combines rays differently in every lifetime eventuating after eons in a balance among all seven rays. Carrying

this a step further, these variations in ray makeup may, I hypothesize, exist among individuals within Humanity, Hierarchy and Shamballa.

Wholeness/The Etheric Field/Vibration. The Tibetan advises us to think in terms of the Whole. With the largest view possible, in the excerpt that follows, he tells us to watch for repetitive series, e.g., seven, three, ten and twelve. Fractals are repetitive, as well. Series of numbers and series of planes can be compared, permitting an understanding of ever larger wholes. Ultimately, any Whole is an etheric field; whether one’s body, or any realm in and

on earth, the solar and cosmic systems, or He About Whom Naught May be Said.

The readers of this treatise who really want to profit by this teaching must train themselves ever to think in terms of the whole. The arbitrary tabulations, the divisions into triplicities and septenates, and the diversified enumeration of forces which are seen as emanating from the seven constellations, the ten planets, and the twelve mansions of the zodiac, are but intended to give the student an idea of a world of energies in which he has to play his part.12

Frequencies/Currents/Vibration Emanating from Beingness, vibration in any etheric field (or Whole) separates into numerous lines of development, into virtually everything in the manifest world. This includes Astrology, Rays, Light, Sound, Senses (Sight, Hear, Touch, Smell, Taste) and Elements (Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Ether).

Pattern/Archetype. This includes the Seven Rays and the visible stars in the sky that have led humanity to mundane and occult systems of Astrology.

In this regard, I call attention to an impactful astrological pattern the Tibetan writes about in Esoteric Astrology, Section V 13. Here, the Tibetan focuses on a constellational triangle that occurs infrequently; that of Leo, Pisces, and Capricorn. This triangle impacting mental development, Djwhal Khul tells us, occurred during the Lemurian Age, when Humanity began to individualize, again in the Atlantean Age with emphasis on astral development, and in our time between 1925 and 1970. Anyone now older than fifty-one, was born in this time and influenced by the incoming energies. Similarly, one can imagine members of this group influencing the ongoing shift from the Piscean to the Aquarian age in a manner like the impact which occurred between the 13th and 15th centuries as the world shifted from medieval to modern times.

During that 55-year period between 1925 and 1970, three major planetary influences, the triangle of Sun veiling Uranus; Venus; and Pluto, was especially impactful. The Tibetan

notes that this triangle emphasizes Rays 1, 5, and 7, a potent and dynamic gathering of forces that prepared Humanity for the coming New Age.

In his concluding statement of this brief section, titled Three Major Constellations and the Zodiac, he tells us that Humanity seeks initiation, the stars declare and decree it, and Hierarchy collaborates.14 Not only are individuals crying for change, but the times define the necessity. In the penultimate sentence, he states, “The Spirit of Life enforces this.”15 He thus adds the decree of that BEING who gives us the Plan, the Source from which both the Planetary Logos and the Solar Logos take guidance and direction.

Analogy. If a concept works on one level, it will apply similarly on a lower or higher plane.

Law of Correspondence. If one knows information in one set of information, one can expect similar kinds of information to function in another set. A seventh note of music is similar to a seventh level of light.

Balance (polarity) between two points, stasis, and reorientation. Negative, positive and reversal. On an astrological chart the energy of a sign is balanced by the energy of the opposite sign. It follows then, for example, that a peaceful Libra balances with a warrior Aries and the two eventually will unify at the center of the line between them. Oneness signifies balance of positive and negative, resulting in stasis. Comparing Light and Darkness, curiously, at a point in the Whole, Light is seen as Darkness. For example, within the manifest world, the Primal Mother is dark. A new point in the middle immediately finds another opposite at a higher level, a new tension, with which to integrate. Similar relationships involving both fusion and duality may be resolved with different sacred geometric figures.

Triangles/Sacred Geometries. Another familiar application occurs in the triangle; as energy moves between and among the three points, it spins and rises in a vortex ultimately coming to a focal point, a nadi, at a higher level. We observe currents and energy transmittal which affect the entire etheric field, conveying information. The two dimensional spiral is often seen at archeological sites, an indicator of the symbol’s value and recognition from ancient times. (Similarly, in the Egyptian pyramids, repetitive flower of life symbols based upon five points have been found. Repetition suggests Evocation and Involution discussed elsewhere.) Each sacred geometry yields new ways of viewing and working with the energies of the manifest world. Fractals and their application are related.

14 Bailey, Alice A. A Treatise on the Seven Rays: Volume 3: Esoteric Astrology (NY: Lucis Trust, 1951) 550. 15 Ibid, 550.

Intelligent Supervision16 by the Soul/Monad, especially if one knows one’s purpose, is a new tool for conceptual thinking. An aspirant or disciple can be well along the spiritual path, for example, having integrated the lower triangle into personality and built the antahkarana to some degree, before the individual becomes consciously aware of soul intervention in daily events.

Looking back in life, one can’t help wondering about small decisions that seemingly shifted one’s direction. For example, faced with determining a college major at seventeen and knowing that women were not then politicians, nonetheless, I chose Political Science as a major and two years later added a minor in International Economics. The only girl in department classes, the degree resulted in a public role twenty years later.

An old proverb tells us that for want of a nail, a war was lost. Another, a Zen Buddhist tale, tells us that no matter the outcome of any circumstance, the result may be good or bad. Over time, one recognizes that the smallest of unexpected happenings, whether good or bad, may bring valuable long-term effects and most importantly, may have been or are the result of soul supervision. Eventually, this may apply to a daily flow of impressions that guide service to the plan. Intelligent supervision will become increasingly known by disciples and initiates as the Aquarian Age unfolds.

INCLUSIVE REASON

I cannot emphasize too strongly, as Djwhal Khul tells us, the Technique for the Fusion of the first ray (Isolated Unity) leads to understanding the fused quality of the second ray (Inclusive Reason); the Technique for the Fusion of the second ray leads to understanding the quality of the third ray, that of Presented Attributes. Further, fusion of the primary rays is gained through soul vision.

If we study this triplicity with care, we shall see that the process outlined brings the higher aspect of the personal self, the mind, to the lowest point of contact and into control of the physical body; we shall see that it brings the soul into

conscious control of the astral, desire-sentient body, and that it also brings the will aspect (the highest aspect of divinity) into control of mind.17

Here's a shorthand reminder I use: Mind controls physical; soul controls astral; will controls mind. And here’s another hint: will impacts all three, increasing as the antahkarana is developed and extends.

16 Bailey, Alice A. Discipleship in the New Age - Volume II (NY: Lucis Trust, 1955) 297-300. 17 Bailey, Alice A. A Treatise on the Seven Rays: Volume 2: Esoteric Psychology II (NY: Lucis Trust, 1942) 384.

As I think about this, I remember Frank Sinatra singing, “Love and Marriage, love and marriage, go together like a horse and carriage. You can’t have one without the other.” Listen here.18 That may not be true today but the idea of things going together is sound. (Pun not intended.)

We ask, which comes first? The chicken or the egg? Which comes first? Isolated Unity, Inclusive Reason, or Presented Attributes? The soul answers: only I accomplish the fusion–in all good time. I do this by fusion of first one thing and another through the lower triangle, thus we have transformation and a unified personality: thus, in time, the soul and personality merge together. As each lower aspect purifies and its positive quality reflects the aspects of the upper triad, as then those three become one monad, we arrive at inspiration, illumination, and imagination. You can’t have one without the other.

Here are a series of metaphors about Inclusive Reason, none of which totally satisfy, some of which may leap out to different people, hopefully bringing understanding:

Inclusive Reason is the product of the fusion of will/light and love, the marriage of wisdom and love.

The simultaneous awareness of discrete detail and yet inclusive of the whole of all things, that which binds all together.

One grasps detail and the Entirety simultaneously.

Groups/ashrams are composed of individuals with different qualities and yet together have one soul.

In unity, there is diversity.

One is both mystic and scientist, focused on the Whole while seeing the detail in discrete units.

Fusion of personality and soul and later with Buddhi leads to identification with Christ Consciousness and still later with the fused Spiritual Triad and recognition that I and my Father are one.

Notably, the sign and constellation Virgo may aid significantly in the identification of Inclusive Reason, since both relate to Mother/matter; She, the Virgin, births the Christ. Virgo’s mundane ruler is Mercury, the esoteric ruler is Moon veiling Vulcan and Neptune, and the hierarchical ruler is Jupiter. Of significance, Neptune and Jupiter, both having Ray 2 energies, are mundane rulers of Pisces, the sign opposite Virgo, thus constituting a polarity to be resolved. We often find Neptune and Christ spoken of as the same energy. (Of more than casual interest is the fact that the two rulers are exactly together in Pisces on April 12, 2022, the first time since the

18Frank Sinatra - Love and Marriage (with Lyrics) - YouTube. Accessed 3.30.22 (Sinatra n.d.)

1850’s. Their next conjunction in that sign will occur in the latter part of the 22nd century, after the entry into the Age of Aquarius.)

In Esoteric Psychology, Volume II the master Djwhal Khul tells us that because Inclusive Reason involves a very high point of synthetic comprehension, it is extremely difficult for him to explain or for us to understand until one reaches the third initiation, the true first initiation. In this same section, he tells us,

I cannot too strongly call to your attention that I am not here dealing with the normal service and the self-enforced cooperation of the aspirant—a cooperation based upon theory and a determination to prove theory and plan and service to evolutionary facts—but with that spontaneous illumination, creativity and inspiration which is the result of the use of the Technique of Fusion by the soul— by the soul, and not by the aspiring struggling disciple. Here lies the clue to meaning. We are dealing consequently with that stage of development wherein, in deep contemplation, the man is consciously merged with the soul and that soul, in meditation, decides, plans and works. He functions as the soul and has achieved a definite measure of success in living as a soul, consciously upon the physical plane. (Italics and bold added.)19

It bears repeating. The Technique for the Fusion of the first ray (Isolated Unity) leads to understanding of the second ray (Inclusive Reason); the technique for the fusion of the second ray leads to understanding of the third ray, that of Presented Attributes. You can’t have one without the other.

The Development of Inclusive Reason

Moving from discussion of Inclusive Reason and Ray 2 in the Spiritual Triad to foundations within the personality, the Tibetan tells us, the heart center is the first to develop:

In this solar system, the heart centre is the first usually to be awakened and active; as soon as there is life in that centre and a measure of activity, the other two major centres can begin to awaken. The correspondence to this can be seen in the fact that the Hierarchy is the mediating or middle factor between the planetary head and throat centres, between Shamballa and Humanity. That is why the emphasis is laid upon the heart aspect in all the teachings.

There are two centres which are regarded as “receptive and distributing agents” in a unique manner:

1. The Ajna Centre (the centre between the eyebrows) works in connection with the three major centres but mainly, at this stage of human development, as the

19 Bailey, Alice A. A Treatise on the Seven Rays: Volume 2: Esoteric Psychology II (NY: Lucis Trust, 1942) 392-393.

distributor of soul force and of spiritual energy as received from the heart and throat centres.

2. The Solar Plexus Centre works in connection with the sacral centre and with the centre at the base of the spine, the centre of life; it works also with all subsidiary centres below the diaphragm, gathering and transmuting their energies and transmitting “that which has been purified” into the higher major centre.

It might here be added that the will-to-be is, from one angle, the energy of immortality; it is the energy which pours into and works through the head centre, whilst the will-to-live demonstrates as the fundamental instinct of self preservation and is to be found positively focussed in the centre at the base of the spine. The latter is related to the personality and is closely allied to desire, and therefore to the solar plexus centre; there is a direct line of hitherto unrecognised energy between the lowest centre in the spine and the solar plexus; the other is related to the divine-spiritual man and is closely allied to the soul, and therefore to the heart centre.20

For now, attention might be directed to the energy of immortality, the will-to-be, pouring into and working in the head center and the will-to-live focused at the base of the spine. One may recognize the polarity between base and crown, Rays 1 and 7, and the imminent arrival of the coming one, the Avatar of Synthesis.

Djwhal Khul continues, explaining that the variety of ideas impacting on this information together with the degree of development of individual aspirants, disciples and initiates varies so greatly that these relationships are difficult to grasp. For most of us, it’s enough to focus on simpler relationships:

1. Man's etheric body is an integral part of the planetary etheric body and is responsive to the free distribution of the many circulating energies.

2. The three periodical vehicles which compose the expression of the human being and which make him what he is (the Monad, the Soul, and the Personality) are each related to the three planetary centres: Shamballa, the Hierarchy, and Humanity, and therefore to each of man's individual three major centres.

3. The three centres in the human being which are to be found above the diaphragm (the head, the heart and the throat centres) are the organs of reception for energies coming from the three planetary centres.

4. The agent for the distribution of the energies received via the head, the heart and the throat centres is the ajna centre between the eyebrows.

20 Bailey, Alice A. Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle (NY: Lucis Trust, 1950) 191-192.

5. The agent for the purification, transmutation and transmission of the energies of all centres below the diaphragm is the solar plexus centre. It is this centre through which the majority of human beings are at this time working. It is the major controlling centre, both for the reception and the distribution of energies, until such time as the heart centre is awakening and beginning to control the

personality. 21

These five points are true for everyone. The relationships develop further within groups; the entirety of these two sections within Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle22 give much information relative to fusion of the Spiritual Triad.

Integration of the Higher Triad, putting it all to work (squaring the triangle).

In time, Rays 1 Atma (Synthesis), 2 Buddhi (Inclusive Reason), and 3 Intellect (Abstract Mind) come together. The marriage of the divine energies of intellect, intuition and livingness; the union of Vehicle and Monad, of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. When balanced, Rays 1 and 2 resolve to Shiva, Beingness as One. This integration of the Higher Triad into awareness of the Eye of Wisdom, the Eye of the Father, becomes more complete.

In the following quote, the Tibetan uses the word contact twice. In other words, a promise, an awareness of eventual identification, is suggested. We have not reached a permanent state of awareness, but (as a spiritual friend reminded me) a lofty level of consideration and realization.

This is not a contact between soul and personality (the goal of the average aspirant), but a contact between the fused soul and personality energy and the energy of the Monad, working through the Spiritual Triad. This does not constitute a moment of crisis but is in the nature of a Flame of Light, a realization of liberation, and a recognition of the esoteric fact that a man is himself the Way. There is no longer the sense of personality and soul or of ego and form, but simply the One, functioning on all planes as a point of spiritual energy and arriving at the one sphere of planned activity by means of the path of Light. If you are like me, when you first begin on the spiritual path, much of the glamour (a word I use with intent) of exploring includes the ability to run away from the world that seems endlessly demanding. Even if one begins with the idea that one wants to be of service to the world, or

other people, or a cause, one’s motives are mixed. Meditation is often more about how others see you than about spiritual practice. For many, the spiritual path remains that way for a long while. Eventually, it dawns on one that being spiritual means to help, to serve in some fashion. Coming to this conclusion often parallels one’s growing awareness that God exists everywhere; God is everything.

I had the good fortune to hear a voice just when I was beginning to think for myself. What it said was, help, serve. Then, helping was a puzzle. What on earth could I do as a little girl? Oh, there was those things the church suggested, like don’t fight with your siblings, or get good grades, or obey your parent, and practice patience and all the virtues. As a little Catholic, it was incumbent

on me to confess at least once a month and more often if I did something really bad. I think I began confessing impatience with my younger brothers who were often not interested in the things I liked to do not because I truly cared what they thought. More because I had to have something safe to say in that dark creepy cubicle with the little sliding door and the screen between me and the priest.

My folks enjoyed discussing what Franklin Delano Roosevelt was doing. One parent favored his party; the other thought Roosevelt was giving away the country. And so, they discussed and argued and sometimes shouted, and I grew to love the give and take of ideas. I decided Tammany Hall, that mysterious place on the other side of a very large United States, couldn’t be all bad. One could get into politics and make a difference for poor people who never had a fair chance. Remember the angel said I must help people? It seemed as good a place to start as any.

Still, the angel’s message resonated inside; every time I finished one project or life task, I would think about what I should be doing next. How could I help people? Eventually the angel message began to make sense, and I saw myself as encouraging people to find their gifts and to share them. They all seemed to be God’s children; He must have something special in store for each one of them if they looked deeply enough.

I did a twenty-year stint of political volunteering and governing before devoting my life to the spiritual path. Eventually, I began to counsel people on their gifts. People need encouragement, need to find confidence to try something out, something that resonates within their deepest self, in their hearts. If this interests you, you may want to look at the papers I wrote in the last couple years.24 25 The first paper speaks about the messages people receive; the second considers God’s plan. One could say, as a continuation of the earlier themes, this current paper probes deeper. A lot is happening in the world today. Along with many others, I believe that Christ is about to return, whether within each of us or as an avatar Who will set the whole world on a new course.

Ostensibly, this paper concerns Inclusive Reason, but the reality is, everything on the spiritual path eventually leads to an opportunity to serve, to share our gifts. Not only do we have the ten seed groups26 that the Tibetan proposed as a guide, but we also have the promise of the Reappearance of the Christ, or of an avatar.

THE COMING ONE: THE AVATAR OF SYNTHESIS

AND HIS SURROGATE ON EARTH

`Having pervaded this whole universe with a fragment of Myself, I remain’ is the challenge of Deity and the eternal hope of humanity. This is the answer of Life Itself to the demands of humanity, to the enquiries of science and to the whole world problem. God is here, present among us and in all forms of expression; He includes, pervades and remains beyond. He is greater than all appearance. He reveals Himself progressively and cyclically as man gets ready for further knowledge.27

Special Preparatory Work for the Externalization of the Hierarchy28

When one reviews the work of the third Ray masters occupied with global economic problems, one finds the English Master and Master P, the unknown North American master, doing “special preparatory work”. One discovers not only the work of Ray 3 masters but Master R, in whose ashram they work, is the third member of the great Triangle of Forces that control the greater ashram of the Hierarchy itself. It seems, therefore, that the third Ray masters have for a long time been preparing for externalization of all the ashrams.

Djwhal Kuhl tells us that the third ray Masters work strenuously, animated by a spirit of selfless service, “The general method employed is one of inspiration and of the presentation of moments of crisis. (Italics added)”29 In another passage, he says “the work done is enormous and of great importance in preparing men’s minds for the return of the Christ and for the New Age which He will inaugurate.”30 Surely the war in Ukraine and fractious politics in many parts of the world

and the United States today reflect a time of crisis!

He continues,

It is nevertheless this third ray energy, as wielded in the Ashram of this English Master, under the direction of the Mahachohan, the Lord of Civilisation, which will force a right attitude toward materialism, which will bring about a balance

between the material values and the spiritual, and which will eventually thrust back into futility the Forces of Evil which have for so long distracted the world of men.31

In Rays and Initiations, DK discusses the work of these Masters and remarks,

Everywhere They are gathering in those who in any way show a tendency to respond to high vibration, seeking to force their vibration and to fit them so that they may be of use at the time of the coming of the Christ. Great is the day of opportunity, for when that time comes, through the stupendous strength of the vibration then brought to bear upon the sons of men, it will be possible for those who now do the necessary work to take a great step forward, and to pass through the portal of initiation.32

We are told that the Hierarchy is subtly working to bring about crisis so that aspiring souls everywhere will come to a new understanding, so that Humanity, the whole of us, becomes an aspirant and takes the first initiation. And soon. I close with DK’s words that seem to speak directly about those who long to help:

As goodwill and light stream forth into the minds and hearts of men, these evil qualities and these directed energies which keep the door of evil open will give place to a longing for right human relations, to a determination to create a better and more peaceful world and to a worldwide expression of the will-to-good. As these qualities supersede the old and undesirable ones, the door where evil dwells will symbolically slowly close through the sheer weight of public opinion and through right human desire. Nothing can possibly stop it.33

The Yoga of Synthesis34

In this examination of Inclusive Reason, my sense is that the new Yoga of Synthesis to which Djwhal Kuhl refers is closely related to the second ray fusion of Whole and Detail, a bringing together of Sound and Light, of Love and Wisdom, and ultimately the fusion of the three primary rays into Beingness Itself.

No book has as yet made its appearance which gives in any form whatsoever the “yoga of synthesis”. We have had “bhakti yoga” or union through devotion. Raja Yoga is now receiving emphasis, which is union through the mind. It sounds like

a redundancy to speak of union through synthesis, but it is not so. It is union through identification with the whole—not union through realisation or through vision. Mark well this distinction, for it holds the secret of the next step for the personalities of the race.35

Reflecting on ways we synthesize I remembered a personal experience that occurred over a period of several years involving the ancient craft of weaving. Some of my ancestors are native Americans and as a result, I have always had an interest in primitive people from all over the globe, especially those of the North American continent. Sometime after having lived several years in an ashram that modeled Paramahansa Yogananda’s dream of worldwide brotherhood communities, I enrolled in a local school that teaches weaving in the Navajo style.

In my first large project on the traditional Navajo loom, I joined diamond shapes together to create three grey snakes representing the ida, pingala and sushumna on a dynamic red field. The entirety of the completed weaving represented the chakras and etheric body extending beyond the weaving itself.

Following that first project, I experimented for several years, weaving a series of diamond approaches, finishing with a large white one bordered in red (the Ego) in the center of a field of black and white stripes (personality), shown here as Exhibit A.36

By then, the two-dimensional weavings had come to represent a four-sided pyramid hinting at the subtle existence of a second pyramid, hidden, a mirror of the visible one. Connecting the two in one’s creative imagination, a three-dimensional Merkabah vehicle results. One’s core Self, the Ego, is at the exact center of this design. As you can see, the weaving, a form of meditation, offers synthesis and the potential for spiritual expansion.

Paralleling insight one might gain in meditating on the second of the six formulas on initiations,37 the pattern readily applies to dynamics within groups as well as individuals. One imagines energy entering from the topmost point of the diamond, circulating in multiple paths, and receiving and sending energy beyond its boundaries.

In this regard, one diamond may be split into two triangles connected on their long sides. Triangles represent triplicity, and for our purpose, may be focused on the primary aspects of God, Rays 1, 2 and 3. Or, stated in another way, the Spiritual triangle of Atma, Buddhi, and Creative Intelligence.

Our consideration addresses the fusion of the three primary rays into one, bringing the potential of the soul departure and the promise of Initiation 3, on the threshold of much greater monadic impact. “At the stage of Initiation, the domination continues and at the third initiation the highest kind of energy which a man can express in this solar system—that of the monad, begins to control.”38

Notable is a growing awareness that the pattern long followed, the soul/monad to which the bridging antahkarana has pointed, is active and seems to act before the personality is consciously aware. This could be the soul direction referred to earlier, portending the personality will no longer make all decisions, is confined to mundane activity, and guided by the soul. Thus, Inclusive Reason may dominate in an individual with a Ray 2 soul.

One assumes all three rays have equal parts to play; it certainly seems that way, —after all, you can’t have one without the other—but I have not studied the fusion of Rays 1 and 3 as closely and am uncertain about the roles of Isolated Unity or Presented Attributes and how they play out. Does the love wisdom of Ray 2 lead because we are in a Ray 2 solar system?

And thus, intuition and Inclusive Reason have taken a ride on the Wheeling Railroad; we find ourselves embracing the Whole simultaneously with the consideration of a kaleidoscope of detail. This is synthesis, this is Love and Wisdom, this is three forms of fire in a harmonic conflagration.

The Tibetan repeatedly anticipates the imminent coming of Christ, speaks of the incoming Ray 7, and of the Age of Aquarius now rapidly approaching. There can be no doubt that the Hierarchy is preparing and has been preparing for this event for at least a century and probably for a much longer time.

In this context, Djwhal Kuhl describes basic truths to date39, naming six things: love is; God is; we (Humanity) are always helped when we need it; and we always know we have been helped. Always, there is progress (revelation), and one progression leads to another (transcendence).

37 Bailey, Alice A. Discipleship in the New Age - Volume II (NY: Lucis Trust, 1955) 243-262. 38 Bailey, Alice A. A Treatise on the Seven Rays: Volume 3: Esoteric Astrology (NY: Lucis Trust, 1951) 308. 39 Bailey, Alice A. The Externalization of the Hierarchy (NY: Lucis Trust, 1957) 288-291

Indeed, still fresh in my mind is the memory of the day in 1976 that I, then a devout Roman Catholic, browsed through a pocketbook in the entry to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. The six basic truths came together in a flash.

The book,40 which contained the imprimatur of the Holy See proclaiming the truth of the text within, stated that for centuries before Christ came, He had been known and embraced by people of many backgrounds. That, my mind shouted, means that Christ and the truths He brought is much larger than any single religion! Indeed, He belongs to the world and beyond. He is Cosmic.

Humanity is poised to affirm the basic truths once again. We are in need, and God will come to our aid.

CONCLUSION

Meditation

Fifty-three years ago, on July 20, 1969, a single image changed Humanity for all time. We viewed the entire globe floating in a sea of blue. Those first pictures of the earth seen from the moon burned into the minds of all who viewed them. We saw our home and ourselves in that moment, one unified collection of nations and individuals. Nothing would ever be the same again.

Sit with that image, turn it over in your mind, let it sink in. We are one people. We are one world. We’ve graduated into new self-awareness. We are one. What happens to you happens to me. You are my mother, my father, my child, my friend, my family. When I help you, I help myself. When I hurt you, I hurt us all.

From the center, from light, love, and will, let the plan of love and light work out. May it seal the door where evil dwells.

One world. One people. Om, om, om.

Inclusive Reason is a step for both groups and disciples on the way to Initiation 3 and beyond, part of the unification of the Spiritual Triad and eventual Monadic command of liberated group and individual personalities as vehicles for creative activity.

Inclusive Reason combined with Isolated Unity and Creative Imagination heralds the coming of Christ. With Djwhal Kuhl and other Hierarchical leaders, with Sanat Kumara, with the Solar

Logos, with all creation, we anticipate the advent of the Avatar of Synthesis and a new Yoga of Synthesis, a dispensation oriented to the coming Age of Aquarius.

I close with words of anticipation spoken by Djwhal Kuhl,

Thus the original Plan will be restored on Earth; this is symbolically referred to in the Bible as the Garden of Eden; the Angel with the Flaming Sword will no longer guard the Door of Initiation into the Kingdom of God, but will be transformed into the Angel of the Presence. Simultaneously, the door into the world of spiritual reality will open before mankind, and the door where evil dwells will be closed.41
