Matt 5:14-16: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Luke 12:3: Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
Light of the Soul: First, that the reason we are confronted by the pairs of opposites, and so frequently choose that line of activity or attitude of mind which produces in us pleasure or pain, is because we fail to distinguish between the lower nature and the higher, between the personal self (functioning as a physical, an emotional, and a mental unit) and the divine spirit to be found in each of us. We identify ourselves with the form aspect, and not with the spirit. We regard ourselves as the not-self, for aeons of time and forget our sonship, our unity with the father and the fact that we are, in reality, the indwelling self.

An Esoteric Analysis of Whistle-Blowing
In The Rays and The Initiations (RI) on page 758, we are told by the Christ that men “love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil.” In the context of this paper, evil will be used as another name for ignorance. Therefore, a question to ponder as you read this paper is, if men love darkness out of ignorance, are their deeds truly evil?
I have made a sincere effort to write this paper in the spirit of and from the perspective that we have collectively erred on the side of ignorance, in part, by failing to see God back of every form, and by turning our metaphors into facts. In his books, Joseph Campbell addressed how our lives have been impacted by the misinterpretations of metaphors and ignorance. He posits as examples our physical trips to holy and sacred places, like the Holy Land and the Ganges River, which are geographical locations upon the surface of the planet. However, the kingdom of heaven, the sacred, is truly within us, everywhere, and is both immanent and transcendent. In his books a distinction is made between “elementary idea” and an “ethnic inflection.” God would be an elementary idea and Jehovah would be an ethnic inflection. In other words, we perceive Jehovah, a metaphor, and not, God, the reality through the five senses.
The events and people presented in this paper are part of the Great Illusion, that is, they exist within the field of time, including the writer. The Great Illusion is simply the outer expression of an inner reality/cause, absent the state of being. An incident, event or object becomes an illusion when our knowledge is solely based upon its objective form.
Nevertheless, life within the Great Illusion is the only life known to the vast majority of souls populating this planet, including disciples. Maya, glamour and illusion prevail when we fail to see the God back of every form. Disciples are part of the hierarchy and also part of struggling, unhappy humanity.
While disciples are part of humanity, some disciples may be aware that “one of the great emerging beauties of the present time is that light is being thrown into every dark place, and there is nothing hidden which shall not be revealed.” (RI, 758) There are no exceptions. For those of us who have the eyes to see, Light is also being thrown upon the lives of disciples and upon our group and individual illusions. Humanity's sense of separation had been derived from our sole identification with those illusions. I will simply state here that confusion empowers illusion and also illustrate through this paper why that is so.
My Story
I had been living a rather normal life until I was introduced to metaphysical and esoteric literature. From that material, I learned about the mind and how it worked. I discovered there is a law that I could use to either obtain treasures in heaven or treasures on earth. I am consciously utilizing the law as I write. Through this discovery, I had realized the power of choice. I wanted both treasures and that was the genesis of my confusion. How could I avoid the pitfalls of worshipping two masters? How do we avoid this pitfall?
Moreover, when I was 18 or 19, I could no longer recite portions of the Nicene Creed. This creed is recited in the Episcopal Church. I experienced its message as demeaning and inconsistent with a God of Love, and One Who is no respecter of person. Thus I embarked upon a journey to discover a different meaning to the phrase, “the only begotten Son of God.” Through study and meditation, I learned that the only begotten is an elementary idea, in which we live, move and have our being within. Metaphysically speaking, the only begotten could be defined as a ray life. The phrase does not refer to a historical figure. I put on the mind that is in Christ Jesus and overcame confusion. If thy eye be single, the whole body is full of light. The Christ mind is an intuitive one, a clear mind.
As described in Genesis, the creative process begins in the mind and is initiated through the word. Through the practice of this formula, I learned to manifest both tangible and intangible thought-forms. Through trial and error, I discovered it is best to seek first the kingdom of heaven, i.e., the single eye. Why? The kingdom of heaven has given both direction and order to my life. The kingdom of heaven, for me, became mental clarity. With mental clarity, I could aspire to self-mastery and in the achievement of that obtain my lesser goals as well. However, in the obtainment of these lesser goals, the relationship between those things and me had changed. I found myself no longer attached to them or possessed by them. They, like the Snowden affair, exist within the field of time. The I Am, that I Am, does not.
I have learned to act upon the knowledge given. I have embraced it and have lived from it. I know that all of us shall arrive at this place at some point in our lives, and in the process may also discover we lack the courage to follow through. I was there, and at times I revisit that place. I have shared this, to give you some insight as to why the Snowden incident arrested my attention. In his courage, I saw my own. Truly, it takes courage to be a whistle-blower. Truly, it takes courage to educate humanity in the ways of God.
The Rest of the Story
If “Light is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen,” why is the Light opposed whenever it appears in the world? We don't recognize it as light.
The idea for this paper emerged out of recent revelations by Edward Snowden that the government of the United States had been spying on its own citizens. In the field of time, the United States had outsourced its national security to Snowden’s employer. Following those revelations, Snowden, the messenger was vehemently attacked and his patriotism and loyalty questioned. He is currently residing in Russia. The attacks focussed on him, to discredit him, and not upon the truth/light that he revealed. Does this sound familiar?
I was deeply bothered by those attacks as I saw the use of them as a way to deliberately confuse the mind, by making the light seem dark and the dark seem light. Rather than look for the underlying meaning, both sides of the debate chose to focus upon the horizontal agreements/relationships between privacy and security. God back of every form had not yet entered into the conversation, until now. Prior to this, it had been a “flatland” discussion.
Illusion does make the light seem dark. It is a deception created by us. These attacks challenged my sense of Self. As a consequence of the revelations, I found myself inwardly asking, am I a Child of God or dust of the Earth? I thought how is it that some of Snowden’s attackers, who happen to be self-professed Christians, were rejecting Luke 12:2, which states all will be revealed? This story is still unfolding within the field of time.
Based on their behaviour, it could be inferred that they were members of the “collective consciousness,”* individuals who are easily influenced and swayed by others. Members of the collective consciousness may be conditioned more by glamour than illusion. These individuals constitute the majority of the American people. Furthermore, these attacks created an environment in which truth telling was discouraged. Which could be translated into, it is okay to verbally profess a belief in the freedom of speech, and a not now philosophy as articulated by Saint Augustine's in Confessions. If you are not familiar with the story, he asked for chastity but not yet. Like Augustine, we want scriptures to be fulfilled, but not now. Apparently, freedom of speech is not an individual right in the United States of America. To speak truth to power could get you a prison sentence. The “United” in the United States could be another name for conformity.
Furthermore, how is it that a nation professing to be “Christian” is defending the darkness? The Master Jesus knew this would happen. He knew men would misinterpret his words. He knew his words would become both in and of the material world. He knew life’s emphasis would be directed on
phenomena. He knew spiritual laws would be used to obtain kingdoms and treasures on earth, and power over others. He knew men would choose darkness to light to his very end, cumulating in the words, “Forgive them for they know not what they do.”

When we misinterpret, a hint, an event, a word, act or behaviour, we do things that we would otherwise not do, if we only knew better. Truly, we know
not what we do. We see only conditions and not the Truth. We have put more trust in the opinions of others than in our own capacity to discern truth.
Some Christians see only their ethnic inflection, like Jesus, who is an inflection that is not “transparent to transcendence.” (Joseph Campbell)
Writing this paper has challenged me to exercise right judgement. I am not looking to place blame, as that would be impossible. We are doing the best we know how at any particular moment. Moreover, those individuals who are
fully identified with the fourth kingdom in nature have put forth a plausible argument against disclosure, as life for them is the form. They live within the field of time and that field has a definite beginning, birth, and a definitive ending,
death. There is a physical birth and a physical death. They are invested in an illusion. In their minds, disclosure threatens their countrymen, sources, antipathies, antagonisms and racial differences. They revolve upon the Mutable Cross.
And, this is what we, those who identify with the fifth kingdom in nature, are up against. How do we assist with the work of the hierarchy of moving humanity into the fifth kingdom and away from its chosen divisions? How do we liberate it from its imprisonment in form? How do we assist others to mount the Fixed Cross? I have chosen to assist by writing this paper.
Historically, light has been associated with the good and darkness with the bad. However, Snowden’s distracters repeatedly associated light with the bad and indirectly associated darkness with the good. The light has been portrayed as endangering human lives and the darkness as a protector and giver of life. We know this to be false, as God said let there be light. He did not say let there be darkness. than they love the light. As I interpreted their attacks as a deliberate attempt to imprison the human spirit and to discredit the ageless wisdom, their distortions
and contradictions had to be challenged. I asked myself, will I throw light into every dark place? The answer came back, “yes.”
Whistle-blower
What is a whistle-blower or “ethical resister?”* Whistle-blowers throw light into dark places. Whistle-blowers resist the lures and enticements of the dark side to bring a greater degree of light into the hearts and minds of men at great risk to themselves. They sacrifice their personal desires for the good of the whole. Through their actions they bring light to dark and secret places that would otherwise remain hidden, dark and unknown. This paper has cast the whistle-blower as illuminators of the Word. Luke 12:2 is the most apropos to
whistle-blowing because it states, “For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.” However, none of these saying can materialize without a human agent, and whistle-blowers have become those agents. The 21st century revealers are the whistle-blowers and ethical resisters.
This paper is also written with Genesis 1:3, Job 24:13, Psalms 36:9, Isaiah 42:16, Matt 4:15, 5:14-16 and Luke 12:3 in mind.
Whistle-blowers have become a vehicle through which that which is hidden is revealed. Some whistle-blowers may have even overcome the glamour of sentiment and may have even pierced the dense fog of emotional reactions.* That is pure speculation on my part.
Have contemporary whistle-blowers consciously fused and blended soul and material light? I don’t know. I do know that they have rendered a great service to the human spirit. Neither can the writer present any evidence that they are esoteric and occult students. Nevertheless, this paper will concern itself with
the impact of the ethical resister’s revelations upon the culture at large and the

whistle-blowers subsequent treatment. The writer is not concerned with whether
or not the whistle-blower is a conscious or unconsciousness disciple. The
nomenclatures of ethical resister, whistle-blower and disciple will be used interchangeably.
Today, whistle-blowers are “rightly fighting the totalitarian methods of cruelty, spying, murder, suppression and the lack of personal freedom threatening the entire planet. As of today, whistle-blowers are pursued and prosecuted worldwide. Whistle-blowers are fighting the abominable methods of imposing the rule of a few evil and ambitious men upon the ignorant masses, under the name of [National Security]. They are fighting the technique of exploiting the ignorant through misinformation, organised lying and limited education. They are fighting against the sealing up of nations within the confines
of their own territory, against the police state, the lack of free enterprise and the reduction of men and women to automatons. This is the true imprisonment of the
human spirit. The situation is, however, so pronounced and the evil so obvious that it will eventually defeat itself. When separatism and nationalism dies out, a
different state of affairs will gradually supervene and a true [Democracy] (in the spiritual sense of the term) will take the place of the present wickedness” (RI 745).
Consequences of Whistle-blowing
Some whistle-blowers have withstood harsh treatments having possessed the moral strength to do so. The Journal of Business Ethics states, “The moral strength required of whistle-blowers is so far outside the norms of secular culture that it really makes sense only in a religious context.”
Generally, we have not thought of individuals like, Nicolas Copernicus, as whistle-blowers, but we should, as he revealed a truth about the structure of the solar system that was at odds with the prevailing belief. He delayed publishing of his finding fearing reprisal. This is inserted so that you may know that new knowledge, which is light, has always been opposed by someone or some group. An expanded consciousness has always threatened existing paradigms, rendering them obsolete. In Spirit, the us versus them paradigm is obsolete.
Glenn Greenwald wrote in June 2013, “The purpose of whistle-blowing is to expose secret and wrongful acts by those in power in order to enable reform. A key purpose of journalism is to provide an adversarial check on those who wield the greatest power by shining a light on what they do in the dark, and informing the public about those acts. Both purposes have been significantly advanced by the revelations thus far.” I disagree. His “informing” does not go far enough. Journalists have not yet ventured into “the constitution of man.”* Journalism generally deals with effects and not causes.
Also in The Rays and The Initiations on page 717 it states, “Sanat Kumara created this planet and all that moves and lives therein in order to bring about a planetary synthesis and an integrated system whereby a tremendous solar revelation can be seen.” Journalist could assist in this effort by addressing the subjective side of manifestation.
A Challenge
What has prevented Sanat Kumara’’s planetary synthesis from materializing? Ignorance and identification with our animal bodies have stood in the way of this synthesis. We have worshipped a false god. Will humanity continue to identify with its antagonisms and antipathies or will it stand with Sanat Kumara and Glenn Greenwald? Will we identify with the Spiritual Hierarchy or the kingdoms of this world?
In Christian terminology will we worship God or Mammon? Will we give in to the three temptations and worship materialism or will we say, get thee away from me Satan, as man does not live by bread alone? The Snowden affair could
be a defining moment for those whose eyes are open. The Snowden incident offers us a choice to either know our true selves or not. The worship of two masters kept me confused and divided. We are always being offered consciousness expanding opportunities. The Snowden affair just happened to

capture my attention. It is has expanded my awareness. I took a few step back from culture and the impact of culture, and visioned a hidden reality.
In the Externalization of the Hierarchy, the Tibetan has asked us “to drop our antagonisms and our antipathies, our hatreds and our racial differences, and to think in terms of the one family, the one life and the one humanity.” Why? He has rightly perceived that in dropping our preferences we could overcome both glamour and illusion, identify with the Light, and see God back of every form. Also, whistle-blowers would not be so easily scapegoated. As to their particular
acts of whistle-blowing, ethical resisters may have over came their personal antagonisms and antipathies to perform a world service.
Unlike world servers, politicians and those who wield the greatest power have used our antagonisms and antipathies against us, for their own selfish purposes. They target our sentiments to keep us fearful. World servers do not use our prejudices against us. One poll taken shortly after the September 11th attacks asked: Would we be willing to give up some of the liberties we have in this country in order for the government to crack down on terrorism, or not? About 68 percent of respondents said, yes. About 68% of the population said “yes” to having their human spirit imprisoned in form, thus confirming the pendulum argument* that sacrifices of worldly rights and civil liberties are
necessary in times of crisis.
Would the God of Life want our spirits to be imprisoned in form? What kind of God would sanction this type of behavior? An ethnic inflection god would sanction this type of behavior. How is it that God, Jehovah and Allah are viewed as separate beings? They have been viewed as ethnic inflections, and therefore have not been transparent to transcendence.

Also, what constitutes a crisis? Is it the imprisonment of the human spirit or the loss of civil liberties our crisis? Our individual responses might suggest where each one of us stands upon the evolutionary ladder. If you support the curtailment of civil liberties, you may identify with your form nature and its related crisises.
Upon the evolutionary ladder, liberated souls would choose an alternative life style, one free of attachments, conditioned antagonisms and antipathies. Liberated souls would choose liberty and the life of the soul. Again, do men and women love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil? No, men and women love darkness because they know not what they do, as we have not been educated in accordance with the precepts noted in Education in the New Age. For those of us who do adhere to its teachings, we must shine the light of
truth into dark places to free humanity from those who wield the greatest power. Therefore, I applaud whistle-blowers for their courage. Whatever rewards they
may have received through compliance they gave up, sacrificed, some knowingly and others were betrayed by their own idealism.
Consequences of Truth Telling
What has been the impact of the ethical resister’s revelations upon the culture at large and the whistle-blowers subsequent treatment?
Consider the following:
- “Many government and industry officials have,…, implemented a consistent pattern of harsh reprisals—from blacklisting, dismissal, or transfer to personal harassment in the effort to define the dissident employee as the source of the problem, to undermine their credibility [through the use of media outlets] and effectiveness as potential witnesses, and to demonstrate to other workers the high cost of nonconformity.” (The Whistle-Blowers (WB) by Myron and Penina Glazer)
Joe Biden’s Comprehensive Counter-Terrorism Act of 1991, S.266, whether intended or not, was designed to quash dissent and discontents in the United States. In effect only the government could have secrets and not individuals. Cryptographer Phil Zimmerman’s contribution to freedom will most likely remain unknown to the masses. The United States Custom Service investigated Zimmerman for allegedly violating the Arms Export Control Act. Did the United States Government terrorize an American citizen? Was this an attempt to terrorize you and I into silence?
- “In one direction lay obedience to authority and likely career advancement; in the other, the affirmation of their own professional and human values and the dangers of retribution from powerful adversaries.” (WB, pg 77)
- “In retaliating against the resisters, then, an administration consciously tries to belittle them and thus to signal to others that confronting [human] authority has high risks and can result in harm, to one’s career and family.” (WP pg 135)
And, some elected politicians and public administrators will end a press conferences with, God, bless ___________. It begs the question of what and whose God are they referring too?
The following individuals have been retaliated against by either the government or industry: Frank Serpico, Karen Silkwood, Marie Ragghianti and Dr. Arthur Console.
“WE ARE WITNESSING THE CRIMINALIZATION OF WHISTLE BLOWING.*
During the last decade, the legal rights for whistleblowers have expanded for many federal workers and contractors, with the one exception of employees within the intelligence community. The rights of these employees have significantly contracted. The Obama administration has conducted an unprecedented campaign against national security whistleblowers, bringing more Espionage Act indictments than all previous administrations combined.
Moreover, at the behest of the House Intelligence Committee, strengthened whistleblower protections for national security workers were stripped from major pieces of legislation such as the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act (for federal employees) and the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013 (for federal contractors). If those protections existed today, Snowden’s disclosures would have stood a greater chance of being addressed effectively from within the organization.
The actions already taken against Snowden are a punitive continuation of what has become a “War on Whistleblowers.” Through a series of retaliatory measures, the federal government targets federal employees who speak out against gross waste, illegality, or fraud, rather than prosecuting individuals engaged in high crimes and misdemeanors. So far as we know, not one person from the NSA has yet to suffer any consequences for ordering, justifying or participating in the NSA’s domestic spying operation.
It is the opinion of GAP that recent events suggest the full might of the Department of Justice will be leveled at Snowden, including an indictment under the Espionage Act, while those who stretched their interpretation of the Patriot Act to encompass the private lives of millions of Americans will simply continue working.
IN THE SURVEILLANCE STATE, THE ENEMY IS THE WHISTLEBLOWER.
If every action has an opposite and equal reaction, the whistleblower is that reaction within the surveillance state. Dragnet electronic surveillance is a high-tech revival of tactics used to attack the civil rights movement and political enemies of the Nixon administration. Whistleblowers famously alerted the public to past government overreach, while helping to defend both national security and civil liberties. Constitutional rights and weaken our democratic processes more swiftly, more surely, and more corrosively than the acts of terror from which they purport to protect us.
THE ISSUE IS THE MESSAGE AND NOT THE MESSENGER.
As a matter of course, whistleblowers are discredited, but what should truly matter is the disclosure itself. Snowden’s revelations have sparked a public debate about the balance between privacy and security – a debate that President Obama now claims to welcome. Until Snowden’s disclosures, however, the government had suppressed the facts that would make any serious debate possible.”
What I love about the Alice Bailey books is that they offer solutions to the Problems of Humanity, of which insufficient education is just one of the reasons why we have chosen darkness over light. We are an outwardly focussed culture. We have been conditioned to believe that the effects are the problem. They are not. The problem is being ignorant of the cause. And, our ignorance started with wrong perception and has continued through wrong interpretation, appropriation, direction, integration, embodiment, and culminating in wrong application. God and I are subject to the same law. As God created in the beginning, so can we. As God said, “let there be light,” so can we, and with our word create our individual heavens and earths. As the law works for God, it also works for us. We could reverse the trend of our ignorance by no longer reducing our metaphors to facts, through the right use of the mind, and by seeing God back of every form. It would also help if we were about the “Father's business” and not our own. However, we would have to overcome a sense of egoism in which the ego recognizes no power greater than itself.
The Snowden incident is a result of us collectively being about our own business and not seeing God back of every form. It is an effect of form identification. It is a natural consequence of identifying with our antipathies, antagonisms, hatreds and our racial differences. Due to these identifications humanity is imprisoned within the “glamour of separation.” “The moment a man differentiates his life into triplicities (as he inevitably must as he deals with the pairs of opposites and identifies himself with one of them) he succumbs to the glamour of separation.” (Glamour pg 79)
Given the present state of humanity’s consciousness, Snowden's distracters are right to love the darkness over the light. In view of their evolutionary stage, their acts and deeds are not evil. They are conditioned by the glamour of sentiment and act and live accordingly. Page 77 of Glamour states, the good people of the world are “Glamoured by their sentiment for their human relationships and knowing little of the love of the soul which is free itself and leaves others free also, they wander in a dense fog, often dragging with them the ones they desire to serve in order to draw forth a responsive affection.” We simply need more Light.
Thus the Snowden affair is one example as to how we have wrongly used
the mind or thinking principle. Our minds have been mesmerized by phenomena and rendered incapable of seeing God back of every form. When disciples are polarized within God back of every form, they would have fulfilled the Delphic Oracle's injunction, “Man know thyself.” I believe that is our goal. Now, let's pivot to every day occurrences in which the wrong use of the mind has kept us imprisoned in the form.
Daily Occurrences
A typical individual rises in the morning, showers, grooms and dresses his physical vehicle, eats a breakfast, and head off to work. Before leaving home, many of these individuals will fill the mind with images from either the television or radio. Many will be tuned into a radio as they drive to work. Many will derive validation from the job and all will receive compensation for their work. All of this activity and many others not mentioned here have kept us centered in our physical bodies. We have lived our lives from the outside in, which is backwards. They have kept us focussed in the world and outside of ourselves. Survival and getting enough to sustain our physical wellbeing is what life is all about to many of us. Within the bigger picture, one that includes our spiritual nature, we know not what we do. But, in this smaller picture, we are doing the best we know how. Can we know more than we presently know? Yes, we can.
The soul is light, the very substance that has flowed through Snowden and ignored by his distracters. They have ignored the light and have chosen to focus upon him instead. Why? Because, his revelations were true and exposed the private side of diplomacy and the private lives of diplomats. Therefore, the messenger/objective form, the whistle-blower became the problem, the one to be attacked. A relentless campaign to discredit Snowden was under taken.
Let’s Go Beneath the Surface
The Snowden affair could be viewed as a microscopic event mirroring the way we view the macrocosmic phenomenal appearance. That is, how we think about an aspect of the microcosm could be how we think about the macrocosm, as a whole. The whole and the part should be processed in the same way. All phenomena should be subject to the same law. There is one creative process behind all manifestation both large and small. Regardless of the crop, the soil is prepared the same way by the farmer. This presupposes the recognition of spiritual laws and that there is order in the universe. This order has been captured in the words, “energy follow thought.” If one believes, as I do, in the existence of a vital and etheric body holding the dense physical body in shape, then one can begin to realize the nature of our essential unity. We live, move and have our being within the planetary etheric body. We are one through the God back of every form.
Furthermore, there is a way to acquire a sense of oneness with all other selves. The way is through compassion, tenderness and dispassion. In The Light of The Soul, compassion is defined as the antithesis of passion which, is selfish and grasping; tenderness as the antithesis of self-centredness, which is hard and self-absorbed, and dispassion, as the antithesis of lust or desire. It also states that when these three are understood and entered into, one member of the human family is put en rapport with the soul of all men.
According to another source, humanity is approaching its goal of linking up with the source of divine inspiration. The keynote of this formula is, Lead us from the unreal to the Real or from the effect to the cause. The subjective exist behind the objective. The subjective is home to the soul, and the soul is the point at the centre. “Some day, the point will take its place in the centre of the square and all the lines will converge upon that point; we shall then have a nation, galvanised into activity by interior spiritual energy, and the lines which have hitherto converged inwards towards the centre will become channels or pathways along which spiritual energy will flow into every phase of a nation's civilisation and culture; the nation will then be linked up–through the point at the centre–with the source of divine inspiration, which is one for all types, all nations and all races in time and space.” When spiritual energy is flowing into every phase of every nation, those who presently wield the greatest power will see their power lessened. Humanity will have set it face towards Jerusalem. Those who stand in the way will know not what they do. We are approaching a point where our antipathies and antagonisms no longer control.
We are approaching the goal of linking up with the source of divine inspiration because the culture has changed from one outwardly focussed to one in which the germ of knowledge is subjected to proper culture allowing the individual an opportunity to flower forth into the full glory of the liberated soul.* Evidence of this has been demonstrated by forward thinkers, and by former and current whistle-blowers.
The liberated soul has been a vehicle for the light of Hierarchy. The unliberated soul has been a vehicle for glamour, illusion and Maya. We cannot love our brother on the darkened way and pass into the great Centre of Absorption. “He who faces the light and stands within its radiance is blinded to the issues of the world of men; he passes on the lighted way to the great Centre of Absorption.”** On one hand, my initial reaction to the Snowden story initiated in the concrete mind, and then I moved on. On the other hand, Snowden’s distracters have not moved beyond the concrete mind. As they see only their brothers on the darkened path, they identify with their antagonisms and antipathies, and through that identification, those who rule the greatest power rule over them.
In the writing of this paper, I discovered hints related to the initiation process. For example, in Discipleship in the New Age Volume Two, page 267, it
states, “…an illumined mind and spiritual intelligence are the definite sign that a man can take the second initiation, whilst spiritual perception or intuitive instinct signifies preparedness for the Transfiguration, the third initiation.” I have meditated upon the truth of Snowden’s revelations and witnessed the knowledge
of the spirit at work. I have been viewing the Snowden affairs from the plane of spiritual perception. I had also read in The Light of the Soul that, “By meditating upon the Light and upon Radiance, knowledge of the Spirit can be reached and thus peace can be achieved.” This is important because, politicians and those who wield the greatest power have discouraged us from having any knowledge

of the Spirit. They would prefer that we focus upon the messenger and not upon the Light or revelations. It is our responsibility, as members of the Hierarchy, to move public opinion towards knowledge of the Spirit.
The Snowden incident is just one of numerous “difficulty producing hindrances”* preventing “the sons of men from realizing that they are sons of God.” There have been others.
The Julian Assange situation is another example of how glamour has affected our lives. The following statement issued by him resonates with a position held by me. Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks said, “WikikLeaks will remain a place where people of the world may safely expose injustice and corruptions.” As I wrote this paper, oftentimes, I heard my inner voice asking about the role of Vatican City. Could it not be a place of refuge? Is it not the self-appointed representative City of God on Earth? Would God offer refuge to truth tellers? If it were truly God’s representative home on Earth, the response would be a resounding yes.
When interviewed, a former whistle-blower said, “rarely does a church take a public stand on bureaucratic corruption’….’It would position the church in opposition to powerful public agencies and their leaders. Such a stand would risk a cleavage among its members and might result in a substantial loss of support.” Speaking truth to power has also resulted in the loss of life. In 1980, the Archbishop of San Salvador, Oscar Romero was murdered for shining light on state abuses.
There are however, individuals like Birgitta Jonsdottir, who has envisioned Iceland becoming a legal haven for leakers, whistleblowers and truth tellers.
Light Reveals
As to the Snowden case, light revealed just how oppressive those who wield the greatest power in this world can be. Their actions have been in the best interest of the State. Their actions have not been in the best interest of the soul. Their actions have also been consistent with a religious point of view that posits heaven as a place one goes to after the death of the physical body. From this behaviour it could be inferred that prophesy is fulfilled in an afterlife location and not here on Earth. But, that view also runs counter to the words of the Master Jesus, who said, the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Through the renewing of the mind, the kingdom of heaven is realized in the here and now, per Saint Peter.
The Value of the Individual
In closing, I would like to explore the theme that Christ came to preserve the value of the individual. A theme that I believe is best preserve through right education. I would also admit that I am writing this paper as one who is in immersed in glamour, maya and illusions. I have not yet liberated myself from all that binds me to the Mutable Cross. Any identification with any aspect of the three fold lower body is a state of bondage. If there is a distinction to be made between me and another, it is that, I know I have not yet fully extricated myself from materialism. And, it is in the knowing of this that opportunity is offered. Here is the conversation.
On February 4, 1944, at a regular Friday evening talk to students of the Arcane School by Alice A. Bailey, Foster Bailey (FB) noted, “One of the outstanding things about our civilization is built on the note struck by the Christ when He was here – the value of the individual, the French Revolution and the Magna Charta. That is one of the basic things threatened by the attack of the forces of evil – the integrity and dignity of the individual. That is one of the underlying reasons why we have suggested for that future that we go out and work with the individual and combine three of them to work in their own light and strength as they see goodwill, thereby bringing to life the power of goodwill in those individuals and giving them freedom from fear and futility. Salvation is going to come by the people of goodwill acting as individuals in their own right.
Alice A. Bailey (AAB): I think that is the major preservation – the freedom of the individual.
FB: Science has shrunk the world to a point where there is nowhere to escape to, and our civilization is based upon interrelationship and interdependence, and if you emphasize the value of the individual you have to work at the same time at the problem of establishing right human relationships. We have learned a little bit about the brotherhood of humanity, that all races are one, all people the sons of God. That has to be preserved, and it is only the recognition of the oneness of humanity laid alongside the value of the individual, all working together for the good of the whole, that will successfully carry us into the new age.
RK: We are putting the emphasis on the life aspect, not on the form – FB’s valuing of the individual and your homogeneity of humanity.
AAB: It seems to be the law of nations, as of individuals, that they start in the mud and come up into beauty. It is vital that we as a group and as a School know what the Hierarchy wants and what the Plan of Christ is. So what are the things that Christ wants preserved? Sanctity of the individual, the homogeneity of humanity, an expression of sharing as a demonstration of welfare work and the family unit.
RK: There is not just the homogeneity of humanity but of all the kingdoms.
AAB: We can’t get too big; that is His job. I am trying to get down to the things Christ is trying to preserve and to help him do it. [Reading further on pp. 91-93]:
His task today is threefold, and the Rule states in very simple language these three aspects of His divine activity or phases of His work. These are in Rays and The Initiation, Part Two, Rule Four:
1. He “tends the evocation of the fire.” Having related Humanity to the Hierarchy (which in the case of the individual means relating the personality to the Soul), He now seeks to relate more closely, with the aid of the Buddha, the Hierarchy to Shamballa, love to will, electric fire to solar fire.
2. He “nourishes the lesser lives.” This refers to the task of the Christ that proceeds day by day in His capacity of God the Preserver. The nourishing of the little lives refers primarily to His task as World Teacher and to His responsibility to lead humanity on into the light with the aid of all the Masters, working each of Them through His Own Ashram.

Final Thoughts
Those who wield the greatest power and evil have historically threatened the value, integrity and dignity of the individual. However, the majority of them do it out of sentiment and out of love of their chosen group. I truly feel their hearts are in the right place. It is our job, as members of the new group of world servers to get their hearts centered in the soul and out of the personality. As I look back over history, I see we have been doing just that. Humanity has steadily moved from darkness to light, and will continue to do so. The pace however, may need to be picked-up.
I have no doubt that one day soon, the soul infused personality will be valued over nationalism, and all forms of separatism. However, for now, we must endure this transition period.
Finally, we are not innately evil, only poorly educated as to who we truly are. And, if poorly educated then the solution is right education. In the final analysis, whistle-blowing is an effect, like the discoveries of science and new philosophies, as all are a concretizations of Spirit. Everything new, hidden and revealed have been a consequence of an ever expanding consciousness. The whistle-blowers consciousness has expanded beyond the ring pass knots of its current confinement. The ring pass knots of nationalism, of beloved antagonisms and antipathies are no longer adequate for an ever expanding consciousness.
“It, therefore, becomes increasingly apparent that the coming education could be defined in a new and broader sense as the Science of Right Human Relations and of Social Organization. This gives a comparatively new purpose to any curriculum imparted and yet indicates that nothing hitherto included need be excluded, only a better motivation will be obvious and a nationalistic, selfish presentation avoided. If history is, for instance, presented on the basis of the conditioning ideas which have led humanity onward and not on the basis of aggressive wars and international or national thievery, then education will concern itself with the right perception and use of ideas, of their transformation into working ideals and their application as the will-to-good, the will-to-truth and the will-to-beauty. Thus a much needed alteration of humanity's aims from our present competitive and materialistic objectives into those that will more fully express the Golden Rule will come about and right relations between individuals, groups, parties, nations and throughout the entire international world will be established.”(POH, 57)
We have been confused because we have refused to acknowledge one master. Confusion is a natural outcome of worshipping two masters. In the words of Marry Morrissey, “Confusion is a place we hang out when we don’t want to let ourselves know what deep down we really do know. Because we don’t want to have to do what we have to do if we let ourselves know what we really do know.”
Sanat Kumara's planetary synthesis and tremendous solar revelation will materialize when we choose one master, see God back of every form and rightly interpret Light whenever and wherever it appears.
When we exercise right perception and judgement we will truly know ourselves. When man does know himself, he will be truly free, and no power in this world would have dominion over him. Let's preserve the value of the individual.
