What’s the Point?
By Victor Dutro
(DHY QU 03 Nov 1, 2017)
The contents of this paper can be given by the use of a simple analogy.
Let’s consider a piece of meat in a pan of water on a cook stove. As the heat is turned up the meat is completely cooked in time. The meat is then consumed. If that meat is ourselves then we become the meal for worms eventually. What if we wish to set ourselves free of this fate? What can we do? The answer is to become the steam that rises above the meat and the cook stove altogether. The reason we continue life after life is that we don’t realize that we can be the steam and set ourselves free.
So what is the point? The quick answer is that the embodiment and the development of consciousness are to set ourselves free. Freedom is the word that stands behind all manifestation and seeks liberation.
What is the point of manifestation then? If I told you the answer you wouldn’t believe me. That is the point. You have to learn for yourself, to experience it yourself and eventually, you will discover that you can set yourself free. What I present in this paper is to you an impossibility or a fabrication of some demented mind perhaps. Again, that is the point. You have to discover for yourself the secrets of life and the secret to freedom. Until you discover the Truth and how to set yourself free you will continue to be the meal of worms. Everything I say or present will be judged based on your current beliefs and how or if these ideas fit your picture of “reality”. Even if you go along with the ideas I present, they will only be a theory or belief or a hoped-for outcome. But, I hope that you will be inspired to study, learn and expand your consciousness and by so doing this you test my theory and discover for yourself if it holds any truth for you. The gift I freely give to you is freedom itself.
Historically, mankind has asked for millennia, questions as to the meaning of life. Who are we, why do we exist? If one has studied the different cultures and their history or texts written in the various religions or those that have survived the ages, indicate a varied story or attempt to describe an origin and or answers which is based on their perception of truth.
I am not here to say or present a different “truth” or disprove any presentation, doctrine, ideology, cultural customs, beliefs or scientific discovery that supports or casts shadows of doubt on anyone’s beliefs as to the origin of mankind, who we are, where we are going or for that matter to refute anyone’s concept or belief as to why we are here. But, I do ask myself, independent of what the current “Experts” say, what’s the Point of it all?
This constant questioning has been a feature of my mind’s process all my life. I was always told, “Just because!” Are you kidding me? That is not good enough as an answer. That is not even an answer.
When I was first introduced to the teachings of the Ageless Wisdom, I was drawn into the subject and the answers that I realized registered or resonated deep within me. I knew within the first fifteen minutes, I would study this subject for the rest of my life. Looking back, I can see how I was guided to be at that presentation through a long succession of events, each one that contributed to me being where I was at that moment in time and hearing that presentation for the first time.
This paper isn’t about me or a history of my life which most likely would bore you to death. No, this story is about Us or if you prefer, You.
I have debated with myself for days if it might be best to change the topic of the following subject, as the topic will not be the common narrative in society and it might even be unwelcome in some quarters to the point of raising a lot of criticism, anger or resentment.
What do I mean? For various reasons, people have built up a belief system based on their life experiences, their family’s beliefs, their culture, and their ability to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal. To some degree, we take on the beliefs of our “authority figures” and teachers as well as the circle of family, friends, and acquaintances. Today, we are exposed to the media and with it the apparent important news stories that fill our everyday lives.
When I grew up I was told that advertisers, political figures, and others on TV had to tell the truth or they could be sued. I guess that was a time of naiveté on my part.
When I discovered that what I was taught and what was a reality for me was flawed or distorted and that if any teaching that I had learned was either false or if based on “truth” then it was a distortion of or incomplete picture of that “truth”.
When I read about the Seven Rays, for example, I didn’t accept these teaching right off the bat so to speak. I wanted to discover them for myself. So even though I still pursued to read and study all I could on the subject it was about four years later that I had a vision that showed me the beginning of everything and how energy in its different qualities came about and are the foundation of everything. I am not asking anyone to believe me but the experience was for me the thing that I had been asking for and it proved to me beyond a doubt that the Ageless Wisdom Teachings regarding the Rays was correct.
I have challenged other teaching that Djwhal Khul in the Alice Bailey books has presented and what I have discovered is that eventually, I have come to realize that he speaks the truth. There are topics that are beyond my level of understanding or development and only my future will someday reveal these as true or false. Because of my own search for truth experience, I would speculate that DK is telling us what lies ahead for us.
DK tells us to not accept what he says based on blind faith but to pay attention to what resonates within us. This is not a quote but my own paraphrasing of the impression I received
What is the Point? Why was it important to DK to teach us anything? What good or what value are these teachings? Why am I the only one in my entire community or circle of acquaintances, even aware of the “Blue Books”, as we have come to call them? Of course, I can’t know what
people read or what they believe but I can see their behavior which to me indicates their thinking. This leads me to the topic at hand. How do we know anything? We truly don’t know our origin. We don’t know our past beyond our memory. Because of some factors we have yet to know, we can’t even determine our ancestors or the lives and experiences that were valuable to them. The idea of reincarnation is a belief that is common in some areas and totally dismissed in others. Even the fact of death is a belief because our senses and our experience of seeing others die must be true because of our witness to the experience. Our knowledge is built upon our experience, our senses, and our observations and from our study of life and things. I read a lot and so I can draw information from what I read as well but my personal experience is the best teacher for me.
I happened upon a video of a man giving a talk and he asked the audience, “Where am I?” Of course, everyone pointed to him at the front of the room. What he said impressed me. He said that everyone was experiencing him within their own brain. The vision of him actually is processed in a part of the brain, hearing him in another part of the brain, and if anyone were to touch him, the feeling would be experienced with their brain. So what he was presenting was to have us to consider that our interpretation of things could be flawed or distorted.
People believe what they believe based on what is within their brain. You will note that I am using the term “brain” and not the word, “mind”. The reason for this is that the vast majority of people I know think that the brain and mind are the same and that the mind or thinking is a product of the brain. This, of course, is another one of those beliefs we hold as true and most likely to question this hasn’t even occurred to the population of society.
When I was in a deep state of depression many years ago, I was alone in my home and I asked the universe, “God if you are real, I need help!” What came a short time later, was a female voice as soft and sweet as I have ever heard and I registered this on my eardrums. I quickly
searched for the source of this voice and for years I swore that someone beyond the physical had paid me a visit. The fact that that voice changed my life is important but after 30 years of study and learning, I realized that that voice was within me at a level that I was not familiar or could have known existed. That was the Soul speaking to me and the point I am trying to make is that our beliefs that God, angels, our faiths, heaven are within us, not outside or up in the sky or out there somewhere. Jesus speaking as Christ said to his disciples that the way to my father’s house (God) is through me. For me, I realize that the way to the Soul, Spirit, God, Hierarchy, the Spiritual Triad or anything in the spiritual realm is within me. Truth be told, the experience I have within this world of the phenomenal also resides within me.
Even in the teachings of DK, we are shown charts drawn out that appears that the Astral, Mental, Buddhic, Atmic are beyond us or outside of us, but this is not so, not completely but this idea is prevalent in society. An example is that Christians praying and worshiping a statue of Jesus hanging on a cross and thinking that heaven is located in the sky or out in the universe somewhere is in terms of energy, they are sending energy out of them when that energy is needed to flow within them. We humans think in terms of physical space and the idea that our mind is required to occupy the area within the skull as does the brain is a prime example. I like to use a tool to teach this idea with an hourglass laying on its side and the sand removed. I
am after the visualization of the shape of the glass, not the hourglass itself. I point out that the brain (mind) looking from the central point at the narrow neck of the glass can look in two directions. But most of humanity only look in one direction, toward the physical phenomenal world. To go to the spirit world, one just turns to look the other way. This is done by going within the brain and using the mind. Turn the focus away from the physical world and the Spirit world appears.
To many, this is the imagination but the imagination is a lower aspect of higher vision.
DK instructed his students to practice using the imagination to gain the ability to create. To proceed to the higher and higher levels of development one needs the ability to be creative. This might be why art and music are often seen and experienced as divinely inspired works.
We all have the capacity to create and with this comes the ability to envision our impressions coming from someplace. This brings up the challenge for us to discern from where do these come?
Below I am going to speak of a vision I received but I should say that I believe that the vision came to me from my Soul, but when I tried to make sense of it or “color” it so that I could put it in words, there is likely a distortion to the original impression based on my beliefs, and current level of consciousness. There is also the possibility that it could have come from some other source so I will leave it to you to discern the validity, or its value if any. I have also tried to “make it fit” with or align with the teachings of DK and there is a likely hood that the level of completion or the alignment that I show may or may not happen at the given level but perhaps this accrues later at a higher level. I hope this will become clear when I present the vision pictorially.

Even though a similar visual might portray the development of different kingdoms or use a different number of merging levels, I am not going to speculate in areas other than the human kingdom and its development. However, it came to mind when I was watching the political rallies that dominated the news over the past year, it appeared to me that there is a division or levels of consciousness that precedes those in my vision. Herd consciousness (inherited from the animal kingdom) might be one to consider for example. These people in my view follow a purpose or leader that in spite of facts or moral grounds are lacking individual awareness or thinking and would accept the leader and his alternative facts as their truths, even if that hurts them or their family and loved one. One such leader of this group says, “I could shoot someone in Times Square and they would follow me.” To me, this is more herd mentality than the causes they support in common. Here, in this case, a person of a higher development is using his power to control and likely harm others. It should be known that power can be used for good or for evil depending on its alignment with the Soul, Hierarchy, or Divine Plan or not. We could also use selfishness vs group consciousness which are levels of consciousness within the teachings of the Ageless Wisdom and the blue books. Here motive determines if energy is used as white magic or as black magic.
In the “Blue Books”, the history of mankind is given within various periods of time. Lemuria and Atlantean preceded our current Arian race (not referring to skin color or white people). These levels were described to be the level of consciousness of the various bodies. For example, Lemuria was the development of the physical body. Atlantis was the development of our emotional body and the Arian was or is the development of the mental body. In terms of consciousness or the awareness of humanity, there are other charts and delineations by others that have given these a measure of sorts as to where or how far a person or group might be on some ladder or pathway from some that are on a lower rung and those on a higher one.
David R. Hawkins, MD., Ph.D. in Power vs Force gives us his different levels starting with shame, then guilt, apathy, grief, fear, desire, anger, pride, courage, neutrality, willingness, acceptance, reason, love, joy, peace and then enlightenment at the top. At each level, there is an associated emotion and a process
that is used at that level, a life view and even a God view of each level. Perhaps this chart helped him view his patients as at what point they were and what the next step forward was needed in helping them move forward with their lives.
I ask what might be gained from the study of DK’s teaching in the blue books and those working to advance humanity’s level of consciousness. We get a hint from Dr. Hawkins research using his medical knowledge and muscle testing (kinesiology) on thousands of subjects. What he found was a connection between the level of consciousness and the power it had on those of a lower level. For example: On this
scale, one individual at level 700 (Enlightenment) counterbalances 70 million individuals below level 200 (Courage). One individual at 500 (love) counterbalances 750,000 individuals below level 200 (courage). I have only given a partial list but the point that might be realized is that the more advanced a person is in
consciousness the more power they have to influence and lift up (white magic), (or control if black magic) those lower than them.
Most of us inherently know this to be true and this stands behind the work of a Master, a Chela, an Initiate or a Disciple in doing Service work for humanity. The thing that one might infer from this is that Disciples, Initiates etc., working as a group, the power would be far greater and thus an important reason to strive to advance in consciousness and work in concert with their group(s) to bring about the Plan on Earth.
I am not going to portray the origin of existence but I am going to strip away the ring-pass-not of the average person in this discussion. As such, I would suppose that the average person will find this unbelievable or as a work of someone’s imagination or delusion.
If one is of the belief that he/she lives but one lifetime and then goes to heaven then this will be hard to swallow as truth, but if this person would accept that heaven is not being disproved by this presentation but that the effort and much knowledge gained and much wisdom to be acquired via lifetimes on earth prior to ascension to heaven then this presentation might hold some value.
It isn’t important to know or agree on what we call things except in the context of this paper I will try to call things where possible using the terms from the teachings from DK and the blue books. However, the pictorial is my own. Later I will speak of the different levels we call Initiations and much of this material will be lifted from the blue books if not in quotes.
So who might gain anything from this? Well, this remains to be known.
For myself, I saw a need for a tool that I could use when I speak to others to give a layperson a quick view of the history of the development of consciousness and a view of the future development of an individual and of mankind.
There is a danger in presenting this simplistic view of the process of mankind in that it might cause one to assume that this is all there is to know and not realize that there is a very complex and systematic building of consciousness required and a lot of knowledge required which means a lot of study of the right material, (the Blue books are recommended), a lot of self-discovery and literally some soul-searching. As a tool, the objective was for me, a way to use people’s behavior, beliefs and thinking to estimate where on the Path an individual might be.
For me, after I thoroughly study the material I often receive a shortcut way to view the whole. This happened when I studied the Rays and again as I studied the Initiations. I wanted a simple way to present this knowledge in a way that bypassed the language barriers, cultural beliefs, religious ideologies and even the identifications with our various bodies, the physical body, emotional body or the mental body.
To be a student of the blue books requires a certain level of development and more. The person even if beyond the level of an average person will not put forth the time and effort to even begin to study this science without having a preview as to what it is all about and how it can benefit them. Many of these
individuals believe that simply living a good life or being good is all that is required. If one is good they go to heaven (if the person believes in heaven) and that is all there is. Some might believe that they are finished when they die at the end of this one life. This we (the students of the Ageless Wisdom) know is not the truth.
You will hear me say, “belief” and “consciousness”, quite often in this paper.
Obviously, if one believes s/he is the physical body then this will present or point to where on this system of charts this person identifies at this moment in time.
Since not everyone is at the same level of development in consciousness it is important, at least to me, to know where they think they are in the development of their awareness, and who they think they are, or what/who they identify with or as.
I won’t go in to why this is important to me but let’s hope that the reader has arrived at a point where their own curiosity has been stirred to the point that they are on the path of seeking answers to their own questions as to who they are, why they are here, where did they come from and what is their future or what is the future of mankind?
These are questions that have stirred the minds of many of the great philosophers throughout history and the answers they have passed down to their students and written in journals give us only a glimpse of their revelations and mindset.
What I discovered when I studied Kinesiology (muscle testing), was that what I had been taught about the body was not complete or in some cases, completely false.
When I studied anatomy to learn how energy worked in the physical body I discovered that our identification with this body as ourselves is false. Yet, this identification with this body, its color, national origin, cultural and racial heritage or one’s location of birth, religious teachings has led mankind into strife, warfare and even today is the root cause of divisions of people into, subsets of beliefs and identifications based on separation, self-centeredness and a belief that is false at its very core.
Of course, this paper isn’t going to change humanity overnight, as people believe what they believe and will continue to believe in these limiting beliefs until they evolve in consciousness and break free from the illusions, and glamours that have supported their beliefs for eons.
It is my hope that for those few that are searching for answers and that have found their way to this paper then I hope to present a way that helps them to step away from those beliefs regarding identification with their physical appearance is false. The fact that they have a human body and were born on Earth and as such they identify with being a human being and that the world we live on is all there is is also false.
If for a least a short time try to release those beliefs and allow yourself to be open to a perspective that exists free of limitations of any kind, physical, emotional or mental.
When I present the pictures try to eliminate from your mind, how these fit within reality as you believe it to be. For example, we humans try to fit our origin as limited to our physical form, species, humanoid,
bi-pedaled, or on a timeline limited to the origin of Earth and what science has given us, or religious teachings have given as to our origin, and our future.
The reason I ask you to do this is that I want to present a view you have not likely seen, and that is detached from these before mentioned limitations.
My view and the view I hope you can take with you is one that presents you as a being beyond the physical and its limitations and identifications with physical phenomenon.
We are energy beings that have a physical body. This presentation doesn’t try to justify our history on this planet or give a timeline based upon this planet's history. My belief is that existence extends far into the past that pre-dates Earth or our current solar system so trying to reconcile our existence to Earth’s timeline is meaningless and only of interest if one enjoys anthropology and the study of life forms on planet earth which our biological physical body is but one.
In the charts that will be presented as I said before is only a partial view as I am limiting these to a time frame that should include all of humanity in incarnation at this time on Earth or participating in the evolutionary path of development from the savage (in consciousness) up to those very advanced individuals (again in consciousness) in incarnation or out of incarnation but that are still developing within the Earth School.
There will be no attempt to portray those levels that predate the animal-man or the evolution of the biological physical body and its emotional and mental stages of development except in its very basic presentation as our starting point. It should also be realized that the final stages presented in these charts is only a partial view of what lies beyond these levels and the reader should bear in mind that these do not depict the end of the road for us. There is much more that lies beyond this and so the path extends beyond our limited view, but I had to end it somewhere, so it seemed logical to end it as presented.
I intend to present the pictures with very little verbiage associated with them to start with. I want this to serve as a starting point for discussion and later go into more detail of the various stages. This is not a final word on this presentation and it is hoped that others will contribute ideas in the future so that this
work grows as we develop in consciousness. It is hoped that this should become a tool or model that serves the different levels of consciousness.
There will be some basis or verbiage that may sound familiar and some that may sound very foreign depending on the reader’s background. Try to insert or adapt the names or words that seem more fitting or appropriate for your usage or incorporation in your field of interest or service.
I will hint perhaps what might be considered as required or needed for the various stages of development, but it is important to not try to identify with a stage as absolute as we are often shielded from our true placement due to some reason that is only known to the Soul, higher entity, Master or the Monad.
I would like this to develop as a tool that can be used by an individual that is free from illusions of grandeur or buried in their personal desires for status or recognition. As such, it is important that one keep their finding of themselves to themselves for fear of being motived by their lower-self or for personal gain if only within their own mind, or falling victim of the glamor of self-importance.
It is hoped that others would add questions that a reader might ask themselves that might indicate they (the reader) belongs to a certain stage (level) of development. I thought about offering some suggestions that I think pertain to a certain level but decided against it for now. There could be a bank of questions
that could be developed that could be asked and the results would indicate the likely level of consciousness.
This question idea springs from the PIP test in which questions and the testee’s answers give a clue as to what Ray energies are present in their energy makeup of which there are the physical, emotional, mental, Personality and Soul Ray energies. The same idea with the appropriate questions could also indicate where they are on the “Path”.
I have attempted to minimize the current language associated with the various religious ideologies and teachings to a great degree. However, there are a few references to God, Christ, and perhaps others but the reader can choose to insert whatever name they wish or ignore these altogether.
Perhaps the only thing that may be a challenge for some is the idea of reincarnation or multiple embodiments. I too had to find the truth to this and it took years to finally realize that we, in fact, do discard the physical body but that we do not cease to exist (It turns out to be a matter of consciousness and identification). Through personal experience, I learned this to be true beyond a doubt. Many have a hope that this is true and some completely disbelieve this as a possibility. Not being open to the possibility indicates where one is on the Path to a degree.
Figure 1
Figure 1 represents the Physical Sun or the Personality if you prefer to call it by this name.
I use the terms Physical Sun, Heart of the Sun, and the Spiritual Sun due to its connection to our energy at a higher point of reference and language that is in common usage in the doctrines of the Ageless Wisdom.
The reader need not know or understand this teaching to follow along and use this information to their highest and best use.
To help facilitate the joining of this ancient knowledge with the mindset of mankind today, I will use the terms Personality and Physical Sun interchangeably. For my purposes, they are synonymous.
In Figure 1, this symbol represents The Physical Sun/Personality and the underlying three bodies that form the foundation of its existence. It is made up of the sum total of all development of the individual, up to this point in evolution. You will note that within the red circle there are three circles each representing a body of development of the pilgrim (You, the individual reader of this paper, could be considered as one of those millions that make up humanity today) over the course of many millions of years and thus multiple lifetimes if you can allow such a possibility or at least the biological development of your lineage (ancestors) up to you in the present. It was pointed out to me by one reader that the circles appeared to be overlapping and should be merged into one another. This view didn’t occur to me but the drawing tool I am using doesn’t allow me to correct this. So just think that the circles are merging into each other and becoming one.
The Personality is a stage of development that incorporates the past development of the physical body depicted above as the brown circle, the development of an emotional body depicted above as the light blue circle and the development of our concrete mind also referred to as the “lower mind” and depicted above as the golden color circle. The colors chosen do not have any significance except to help us visualize them in this presentation. The integration of these bodies over an enormous period of time eventually brings the Personality as a functioning level of consciousness into being. It should be noted that the full integration of these bodies continues for a long period of time. Above these bodies are only partially unified into a single sphere. Even though I will depict the Personality as a red circle, keep in mind that the inner circles are still in process of coming together and working as one. (The full integration of these, occurs at the third Initiation according to the teachings of the Ageless Wisdom.)
The brown circle in figure 1, represents the physical body and its development as a vehicle for a human being or what was to become identified as “the” human being. The period of this development doesn’t concern us at this point and one need not believe in reincarnation to follow along in this presentation but it might be helpful if you allowed for the possibility of this. Otherwise, think of the biological development of yourself as developing via the evolution of your ancestors.
The period of time that this development occurred was what we call Lemuria which is a period that animal-man came into being as an individual. This individual was unthinking (as we consider what thinking is today) and unemotional, except for the fulfillment of sexual urges, and one’s survival, as these were not yet, fully developed. Life was centered on survival, sex and the primitive life of gathering food, obtaining shelter for protection from the weather and the hostile environment, and the procreation of life for the survival of the species. Life would have been based on animal instincts. The brown circle represents the oldest and densest aspect of ourselves in the long chain of our development and would thus also equate to the primitive mind and the early development of our physical brain and physical body working as a system of integrated sub-systems, organs, tissues and structures designed to sustain life, movement and interaction in the physical environment.
The light blue circle represents our emotional body and its development within the consciousness of early mankind and has continued to develop up to today. In Figure 1, I have shown that this body has already developed within the human form but its development occurred many eons ago during the period called Atlantis. It was then that the desire nature of developing man expanded from the basics of sustaining life to what might be considered our full range of emotions, desires, and feelings that we experience today. The vast majority of people living today are absorbed into their emotions and this is one of the major causes of conflict within the body and within the world today.
The golden circle represents the development of the concrete mind or what we call the “lower mind”. The mind is often believed to be synonymous with the “brain” but this is an error. The development of the brain was during the development of the dense physical body. The mind development is a process that is going on today in what is called the Arian Period. This has nothing to do with skin color or one’s physical body or place of origin, but there is some correlation to these in numbers of those in incarnation taking a particular body type or incarnation in a certain location but that is beyond the scope of this paper.
Arian in consciousness is dealing with energy and the developmental stage of the person within incarnation and it based on what race (again not race as to skin color or ethnic lineage or national origin) one’s development is on. Today, the advanced on the path are more developed in the mind but that usage of mind may be limited based on where one is on the level of consciousness. This may sound like double talk but as a member of humanity the vast majority have developed the mind but not everyone uses it for purposes other than to satisfy their physical and emotional needs and desires.
The purpose of this paper is to try and determine where the individual is focused at a particular point in time. The mind is developed enough to change this level but it is up to putting the mind to a use other than satisfying the lower self and developing the ability to use the mind to a higher degree of usefulness. This process is what we call the building of a bridge between the lower mind and the higher states of mind that we call the “higher mind” or the “abstract mind”. This development can also be referred to as an increase in consciousness and this can be ascertained to a certain degree based on factors that will be presented in this paper. These are only a sample of factors and this is what others can contribute as we develop this tool.
It is these different levels of consciousness that will be depicted in the following figures, representing the process of this development as depicted in symbolism. This is a representation of a process that is very complex and takes many years of deep study and meditation to even begin to understand it. To a student of the Wisdom this representation may seem too simplistic or missing important details and information but I felt that there is a vast population in the world that neither has the time or the inclination to study and learn this or to understand that there is a process that needs to be learned. Hopefully, this chart will help the layperson to think about where they are in what is considered the path of evolution. If they recognize that where they are and see that there is more to be accomplished, then they might be motived to seek the details and the requirements to climb and achieve a higher level and thus enter into either the probationary path or prepare to take the 1st Initiation or even a higher initiation. The hope is that they may awaken to the Divine essence within and eventually they will commence their journey on what we call the spiritual path or more simply the “Path”.
It is highly likely that a person reading this has already been awakened to this and may have been seeking further growth and has been seeking answers then hopefully this chart might serve as a bridge to visualize where they are and what lies ahead for them if they so choose to pursue their own development. My hope is that this work enables a student to measure for themselves where they are on the Path and then enable them to see the next step to move forward.
This last sentence, that of moving forward, is what inspired me or brought about the visualization for this work. I met a lady that I could tell was quite advanced but was working on things that were already behind her (in my estimation). If she could see where she was on the Path and what the next steps were then it might enable her to realize her error, to change her direction and focus to proceed without any detours or delays. Others I have observed were at or near the probationary path or the 1st Initiation and again were seeking processes that were leading backward, again in my estimation. Of course, karma may be a contributing factor but let’s hope that given their karma, perhaps their Divine Essence which I will call Soul will lead them to the Path and motivate them to move forward. Of course moving forward depends on one’s knowledge of which way is forward. Thus the need for a road map of sorts or chart to aid in this endeavor.
Since I have introduced the term Soul, let me define this term for our use here. In other cultures, this Divine Essence has been called by other terms such as Solar Angel, Divine Spirit or simply Spirit, and in the Christian ideology the Christ within, or Christ Consciousness. You will note that this Essence that I call Soul is above and beyond what psychologists call soul or the
developing human soul. If you will permit me I use the capital S to distinguish a difference between these terms, soul, and Soul. The Soul or the Solar Angel might be regarded as the creator, father, or Spirit but these terms are only relative to the incarnating physical man and not to the larger planetary life, Solar System, Galaxy and beyond which the word “God”, “Father”, “The Creator”, Logos, Great Spirit, or Monad, might be more appropriate to use.
As you can see, there is a lot of room for confusion in the use of certain words or terms and this is another reason that a visual presentation might serve as a tool that can bridge the language barriers between the different peoples on Earth.
These two figures are the same.
I have simplified the one on the right by removing the underlying bodies that make up this greater sphere which we call the personality.

These bodies still exist and continue to function individually and continue to integrate into one working unity or whole over a vast period of time and make up the personality or physical sun in this depiction.

Which Figure do you identify with? Select 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9?
Figure 4. This circle representing our personality is happy
and life is good.
This is where the vast majority of people would be located in
the development of mankind.
People are busy with life, creating families, maintaining jobs
to earn a living, and just enjoying life in general.
This period is what we might call a beautiful life (more or
less.) This stage would be prior to the Probationary Path.
Figure 5. This stage is often experienced as exhaustion or
dissatisfaction with life. Life becomes difficult, chaos, strife, and
conflict arise within the personality.
Life is fractured, and the person seeks answers or wishing for a
way out of life, often turning to destructive behaviors.
Some turn to drugs, alcohol, sex, making money and/or some
form of activity that diverts the mind away from the internal
conflict, at least temporarily.
Some might delve into religion with a zeal or turn away from
religion altogether and some might entertain the thought of
suicide. To this end, some choose activities that lead to death
subconsciously or consciously.
Some seek gurus and/or occult teachings searching for answers hoping for something more out of life.
It is this seeking that eventually leads to a movement toward the awakening to the divine Love within. I have chosen to depict this as shown below. In the Ageless Wisdom, this movement is towards what is called the Heart of the Sun which is unconditional Love.
The Physical Sun
Unconditional LOVE The Heart of the Sun (The Christ Within)
Figure 6. In the Ageless Wisdom teaching, this movement of the personality toward this yet unknown quality is called the Probationary Path that leads eventually to the purification of the various bodies by choice. Virtues are chosen to live by such as the choice to be honest, truthful, harmlessness and so forth. In religious teachings, these are called the Seven Virtues. It should be noted that it is not enough to live a clean and virtuous life but also requires the development of Aspiration and a striving toward something Higher. I would like to point out that words here might indicate a direction. “Higher” for example might incline one to think of heaven or the realm of God to be “out there somewhere beyond one’s self” or above our Earth’s atmosphere. Higher means a “Higher Level” and not a physical direction beyond yourself. The door to this realm resides “within” you. This is an important distinction to remember.
Unconditional LOVE
The Heart of the Sun
The Personality The Physical Sun
Figure 7
The First Initiation. The awakening of Unconditional Love within the heart is a major event.
Keep in mind that this love is not sentimental or emotional love but we often feel it as such. In this figure, the Heart of the Sun touches the personality. This event may have only lasted a few seconds in duration within our consciousness and may have happened in a past life, the memory of this may have been lost to
the ages. In this current lifetime, this event may be reconstituted and experienced as possibly a painful event even though it is a glorious happening. This is sometimes referred to as the “Birth” or the “Birth of Christ” within one’s self. This is the beginning or commencement of the “Path” or the Spiritual Path depicted in the Ageless Wisdom Teachings.
Many have taken this First Initiation and those that have, their lives are now changed. There is a striving and an aspiring to connect or reconnect with that Unconditional Love. They become more inclusive and loving toward their fellow man, there is an awakening that we are all “One” and compassion for others is
felt and expressed in their lives. Striving for wealth and the accumulation of material possessions becomes of lesser importance and a sense of proportion takes its place. Concern for others and for their welfare is more important than selfish or self-centered gain, though this may continue as an issue to be resolved for many years or lifetimes to come depending on the underlying cause, physical or emotional and the lessons yet to be learned and karma paid for wrongdoing.
There are many other identifiers that might indicate a person that has achieved this Initiation and this is one area that I hope others will contribute or share so that this could be added to this tool. However, there will never be a complete list of qualities nor does one individual need to experience or express these as each person is unique.
It is hoped that these examples are taken as suggestive and not as absolutes.
It is said in the Ageless Wisdom Teachings that there is a long period of time between the First Initiation and the Second Initiation. Keep in mind that if the First was experienced in a past life there may be a reconstitution (also called recapitulation) of that Initiation in this lifetime and a subsequent Second Initiation in the same lifetime. The same could be said for someone taking the first Three Initiations in one lifetime. The first two being reconstituted from previous lifetimes. These were experienced by Krishnamurti (quite painfully I might add) according to his recounting of these experiences.

Figure 8 The Second Initiation is another major milestone upon the “Path”.
Arriving at the Second Initiation is no easy task as there are much strife and conflict to overcome due to its association with the Astral plane and our mastery of the emotions. Emotional mastery is depicted in the Bible story of Jesus Walking on Water. Water in the Ageless Wisdom Teachings is the emotional body or what is called the Astral plane. As Djwhal Khul explains that the term “Astral” is misleading in that this plane is not clear as a night sky (astral) but murky and constantly in flux. The Storms within this field can overwhelm us and even kill us just as the storm in the Bible story threatened to kill Peter. The story is about learning to Master the Astral or emotional plane and the key is to turn to the Christ as depicted in the story or for us to turn to the Unconditional Love within us, the Soul. In this way, we learn to “Walk on Water”. When we come to realize that in fact, we have now learned the ability of mastery over our emotions we can now take the Second Initiation.
That which is depicted in Figure 8 is that Unconditional Love or the Soul is becoming more and more an influence in one’s life and the next goal (the golden circle/ Spiritual Triad/Spiritual Sun) is on the horizon. This is not yet apparent to the disciple, but it approaches.
The following pictures are being included for completeness to indicate the journey for the disciple that lies in the future for most. There are a few that are at this stage of development or beyond so the commentary will be brief as those at these levels would not need to read this paper to know what lies ahead for them.
Spiritual Sun
Life everlasting Spiritual Triad Monad
Figure 9 The Third Initiation is a major Initiation (as are all Initiations) but this one especially.
The personality is now fully integrated (the physical, emotional and lower mental) and also the personality is now what is called Soul- Infused. Which means that the personality is aligned and is an instrument of the Soul. In the Ageless Wisdom teaching the rainbow bridge between the lower mind and the Soul is firmly established and communication between the two is now a reality if fact. In this instance, the Spiritual Sun/Spiritual Triad have now connected and will continue to integrate through the
following stages of development. The upper span of the Rainbow Bridge to the Spirit is now under construction. (The rainbow bridge is called this due to the different light qualities known as the 7 rays.)
The Forth Initiation

Life Everlasting
Figure 11
The alignment of all three Suns Are now as
ONE.
Mastery of the lower planes is complete.
The Fifth Initiation marks the end of the cycle of birth and death as Everlasting Life is achieved. One has now become a “Master”, not of men but of the lower plane energies and forces.
This does not depict the end but only the commencement into higher realms beyond the need for earth incarnations. Further development is required to achieve the higher Initiations (6, 7, 8 & 9) which is beyond the scope of this paper. It is quite feasible that the symbol of integrated circles could continue to be used for further advancements if one understands that this symbol represents what you identify yourself
as, such as the Personality, Soul, Monad, Planetary logos, Solar Logos and so on.
Even though I have depicted a perfect alignment being achieved at the 5th Initiation it could be that this perfection occurs later at say the 7th Initiation or the 8th. The point I am trying to make is that there is an alignment at some point and for us, that happens at some point in the future and for some, a distant future.
In a previous paper, I wrote about the Probationary Path that proceeds the 1st Initiation and prepares the pilgrim for the next step of his/her journey into the development of consciousness at this point. Each thing we learn is an expansion of consciousness if only a very minor or limited one.
I was watching a video presentation on Ted Talks from a scientist that had done years of research on the brain. She was describing the difference between short-term memory and long-term. In the first case it is a chemical process but to become long-term, the brain changes its structure. The way this is achieved is through practice and repetition.
The idea came to me that this may account why certain of our uses of our mind does not succeed in the way we wish or in the case of healing that the healing is short lived. Could it be that we need to practice more? I am sure this needs to be further explored.
In the visual that I have presented above came to me without the words and descriptions and I have tried to align this with the lessons and teachings regarding the Initiations. Some of the Initiations I am familiar with and some are beyond me. When I read the blue books I think a lot of the information was put in short-term memory. Some I have used so much that it is in my long-term memory and sometimes I don’t have a memory at all but it just seems to come out when I speak. I may have the details incorrect just as I have trouble remembering someone’s name or where I met them but there is a knowing but that recall fails me at times. In time, we will all forget our earthly lives and move beyond this plane.
Above, I have shown the symbols and indicated some different levels of growth of humanity in terms of the progression of mankind from the average man up to the 5th Initiation. Of course, there are some within humanity today that would fall on the scale below what we call the average man (mankind). There are initiations beyond (higher) than the 5th. My primary focus for this paper, however, lies from the probationary path up to the 3rd Initiation and I will only briefly include the initiations of the 4th and 5th.
As I approach the topic of the Initiations it is important to realize that we are talking about those levels of humanity that are the most advanced in Spiritual development or what we call consciousness. As I mentioned earlier prior to humans the animal kingdom also has a range of
species that have various characteristics one might consider as some sort of consciousness. I am not an expert but I would assume that one level would be the herd instinct or herd mentality which is basically a survival mode of following the leader or go with the flow, safety in numbers.
Humanity would extend from Lemurian to Atlantean to the Arian consciousness.
Lemuria was an age far in the past and it was during this period that humanity was nearly an animal and most likely unrecognizable to us today as being human. It was during this age that the physical body was in development. The things associated with this stage would be the basic urges of survival, which would include food and skills to obtain these necessities. Shelter and protection from the environment, animals and other sources of danger. Sex and the satisfaction of the baser urges resulted in the perpetuation of our species but I am sure it wasn’t their immediate objective as the mind and its development would come later. Physical pleasure and personal gratification are more likely for having sex at this stage much as it is today.
Atlantis followed on after or during the later stage of the Lemuria period. The baser urges still exist but there is the inclusion of urges that are higher on the scale as desire and emotional needs come to the fore. Even today we still see the baser urges that were related to the Lemuria age and the satisfaction of emotional desires of the Atlantean period along with the more developed mental capacity of the Arian age. We are currently in this Arin age but as you can see there is a lot of overlap when we are speaking of human behavior and where the vast majority of present day humanity. We can see that even though the body is capable of using the mind as it pertains to the physical world and emotions along with the satisfaction of pleasure and desires and the avoidance of pain and suffering both of the physical nature and the emotional kind which we refer to the psychology behind the physical manifestation. We might use the term consciousness to indicate some sort of scale to classify or delineate different levels of development. There will be a lot of overlap as is evident today in the mindset and behaviors of our present day human population. Even though we are long past the Lemuria period of development of the physical body the body of today still craves or succumbs to the satisfaction of the baser needs of sex, food, survival and so forth and we have a full range of emotions and cravings and desires which the majority of humanity is consumed with. The mind is well developed but for the most part only the lower mind, that which relates man to the physical environment and via his five senses this mind is used to serve the desires and urges of the lower bodies. I have just described where average man is today. There are some that have utilized the mind to a greater degree and these we could refer to as the Intelligencia of the race.
Prior to the stage, we call the Probationary Path there is the Mystical Path which is focused via the emotional connection and strives to connect to some divine entity such as God, Allah, Buddha or Christ and has been the method of Love and Devotion primarily to become at One with this greater Being. This is what is often considered the cause of duality. There is the self and then there is the other Being out there somewhere.
It should be born in mind that each age and each stage is a growth out of or from a previous one. There is no gap or a complete break from some development that existed in the past. There are an evolution and an expansion of awareness which we call consciousness. But the term might
seem to suggest that we remember the past details and perhaps we do but these may have slipped into the sub-consciousness.
One thing that seems to be common in the previous stages that extend back to the very beginning of man’s individualization is the self-centered focus. There are interactions with others and even strong emotional ties in some cases but there is rarely selflessness expressed. Expressions of love and family relations are often of a nature that satisfies the individual desires. These are real and often backed by strong perceptions, impressions, ideals and ideas coming from the lower mind. Even impressions coming from high levels are colored, distorted and/or wrongly interpreted to fit or meet the needs of the individual’s belief system.
As the physical body, the emotional body and the lower mind begin to function together as one this brings on the energy form or force which we call a personality. This is the identity that most of us identify with or as. At some point, we might realize that this is the advancing human consciousness or even God’s in the making even though this idea is absurd in the minds of those at this level of development.
I will now give a brief description of the stages of those humans that have risen to the advanced levels on the path of evolution. You will note that the following are a result of the development of the mind and the connection between the lower mind and those levels of mind which we call the abstract mind and beyond.
Probationary Path (see figure 6 above)
“The Probationary Path precedes the Path of Initiation or Holiness and marks that period in the life of a man when he definitely sets himself on the side of the forces of Evolution and works at the building of his own character. He takes himself in hand, cultivates the qualities that are lacking in his disposition, and seeks with diligence to bring his personality under control. He is building the causal body with deliberate intent, filling any gaps that may exist, and seeking to make it a fit receptacle for the Christ principle. The analogy between the prenatal period in the history of the human being and that of the development of the indwelling spirit is curiously interesting. We might look at it this way: –
1. The moment of conception, corresponding to that of individualization. 2. Nine months’ gestation, corresponding to the wheel of life.
3. The first initiation, corresponding to the birth hour.
“The Probationary Path corresponds to the latter period of gestation, to the building in the heart of the babe in Christ. At the first initiation, this babe starts on the pilgrimage of the Path. The first initiation stands simply for commencement.”1

11 Alice A Bailey, Initiation Human and Solar, (Lucis Publishing, New York, NY, 1951) p. 63
The event that marks the First Initiation is the awakening of Divine energy in the heart. This is not the love of the emotion but the energy of Divine Un-Conditional Love. Energetically the Heart Center is awakened or stirred into activity. This shift of energy happens over a prolonged period of time and once begun builds slowly in stages. Since the body in development is the mind, much of the teaching of this development concerns the energy of mind which the symbol of fire or Light is used to convey the idea of vision, revelation, knowledge, and understanding is descriptors.
Path of Discipleship – The first three Initiations
(The following is just a skimming of the surface of each of these topics to give a flavor of what an in-depth study of the material might reveal.)
First Initiation: (Figure 7 above)
As indicated pictorially the Heart of the Sun touches the personality. This is often considered the awakening of the Christ in the Heart or energy wise when unconditional love energy from the Soul touches the heart of the pilgrim and is considered the beginning of the spiritualization of the person.
As one grows in consciousness they begin to master the physical body (this actually began during the Probationary Path). In the beginning, it is control of the physical urges of which sex is but one. Control of one’s wanton sexual indulgences, for example, is to regulate and normalize sexual energy. This regulation does not imply restriction or negation of these energies. Blocking or repressing one’s sexuality is harmful and in no way is harming the physical body a divine act or divine purpose. Control of the physical body is acquired by learning about the body, its functions, and systems. What feeds it and what causes it to maintain homeostasis or balance. Learning to pay attention to the body, its needs and supply these can sustain a healthy body.
In time and at higher levels of consciousness being able to direct and move energy in a way to cause certain results become available to some degree. We are given that the awakening of the heart to Love is the hallmark of the First Initiation. What this means is that the personality, the
developing human consciousness, is awakened to the Soul’s presence. Christians call this being “born again”. Djwhal Khul (DK) refers to this as the “New Man”.
One might use the terms Lower self to represent the personality and the higher self to represent the Soul.
It is the beginning of awareness that the path to “God” or whatever it is to be called by the person, lies within them, not out in space somewhere which seems to be a common belief.
There are indications that one is at or has achieved the First Initiation. A partial list might include a growing love and/or concern for others without the attachment of getting something in return or looking good before others. In other words a growing selflessness or the beginning of what later becomes more apparent to be group consciousness.
The First Initiation deals with the physical causes and effects. It deals with the physical world, the five senses and physical pain and suffering is often experienced. I expect that going through or approaching the First Initiation or reconstituting the First Initiation (if the First was taken in a previous embodiment) will likely be a physically painful experience. One that would not quickly be forgotten and that might change the direction of one’s life perhaps.
Some other signs that the First Initiation has occurred might include:
∙ An interest in occult or esoteric teachings (for some –there are other approaches) ∙ Practice of self-improvement
∙ Practice of self-discipline
∙ The intent to express qualities of a higher caliber
∙ Decrease in the interest in materiality
∙ Increase in desire for freedom from physical world control and restrictions ∙ Awakening of the intuition and spiritual instinct
∙ An awareness and discernment to know the real from the unreal, truth from untruth And there are many others that a deeper study of the Ageless Wisdom reveals. As per our theme of Freedom you have:
“Initiation I. Birth. Freedom from the control of the physical body and its appetites.”2
Second Initiation: (Figure 8 above)
The Second Initiation pertains with the emotional body and mastery of energies on this plane (the Astral plane). It should be noted that mastery pertains controlling one’s self and not mastery over the astral plane itself. So there is a control on and not control over a particular plane. This, of course, goes for the First Initiation and the physical body. This also doesn’t imply that the disciple has achieved complete mastery but that a degree of control has been achieved and there will likely be further challenges ahead. In terms of the emotional issues and glamors there very well maybe latent energy blocks from hidden emotions or glamors that will surface and require attention and brought under control and cleared from the body’s energy systems.
The Second Initiation marks a point of certain ability to control or deal with what are often destructive energies and currents within the emotional body on the plane of the Astral. We are familiar with desires and obsessions that drive mankind mad or drive people to do behaviors of utter destruction such as murder, rape and many others.
The emotional body is likened to symbols such as water in that these emotions are not solid and are very fluid. A Stormy sea in the Bible story of Jesus walking on water represents the dangers involved when one succumbs or is controlled by one’s emotional desires and urges. Drowning
2 Alice A. Bailey, The Rays and The Initiations, (Lucis Publishing, New York, NY 1960) p 685.
within these turbulent energies is a very real possibility and being able to bring these energies under one’s control is a major life purpose and in the divine plan to bring about a greater, more enlightened civilization.
Individually one learns to take control and clear harmful energy blocks that represent memories of painful life experiences. These blocks are often held in place over decades and even lifetimes until dissipated by shining light on them.
When a person is able to do this consciously and with intent he is in alignment with the Soul and this sets the stage for the Second Initiation.
I see this process being taught by Jesus to his followers in the Bible story in Matthew 14 verses 23-33, where Peter looks at the stormy sea and immediately begins to drown. It is the turning away from the emotional upsets, desires, and glamors and looks toward the Higher be that the Soul, Christ, God or some greater divine essence. This enables the seas to calm (the emotions become calm and controlled) that enables the disciple to “Walk On Water”. Thus the disciple gains mastery of his/her emotions, desires and glamor. The process is given in detail in Glamor a World Problem by Alice A. Bailey.
The Second Initiation is one of great emotional crisis that shakes one’s very core of existence and sets one free from those final attachments, karmic and otherwise and those emotional ties to family, children, and life. This doesn’t mean that there is a cutting off or leaving relationships but that the conditional obligations are severed and now unconditional love can enter in.
The Second Initiation might be one of a very painful experience emotionally but the result will be a setting one free of being controlled and manipulated by these forces.
The Second Initiation is referred to as the Baptism and we are told that the longest period between Initiations is the period between the First and the Second Initiation and requires many lifetimes (embodiments).
Since emotions are often the driving forces behind human behaviors, it is often easy to see if and when one is in control of their emotions or not.
Anger and rage are often expressed outwardly. Some emotions are not so evident but watching for signs, does help us to identify them.
Even a person that has gone through the Second Initiation will be working on exposing and clearing those latent energy blocks and glamors over time.
The period following the First Initiation and ending at the Third Initiation is considered the Path of Discipleship.
“The storm aroused by his emotional nature, the dark clouds and mists in which he constantly walks and which he has created throughout the entire cycle of incarnated living, have all to be cleared away in order that the initiate can say that –for him- the astral plane no longer exists, and
that all that remains of that ancient and potent aspect of his being is aspiration, a sensitive response to all forms of divine love, goodwill, can flow without impediment.” 3
“We are told (and it is factually true) that the longest period between initiations is that found between the first and the second initiations. This is a truth which must be faced, but it should also be remembered that it is by no means the hardest period. The hardest period for the sensitive, feeling aspirant is to be found between the second and the third initiations.”4
There are several signs that one is working toward or preparing for the Second Initiation or as an expression following the Second Initiation as given before is the control of one’s emotional nature and no longer immersed in the glamors of the Astral plane. (A partial list can be found in Glamor a World Problem by Alice A. Bailey.)
There are a poise and calmness that shows during stressful situations. This is due to the stillness of the sea of emotions within the disciple. If there is an emotional reaction it can be quickly brought under control and calmness restored.
It isn’t that emotions no longer exist but that they no longer dictate or control the disciple.
The sensitivity of the senses become greater which are then used to extend awareness to a greater degree and qualities formerly not realized are now evident.
Energetically the energy of desire expressed through the personality and using the solar plexus are raised to the Soul and the heart center.
The Love is expressed as Unconditional Love becomes more and more a radiation that extends outward towards others, group consciousness develops and continues to grow.
There is a discernment of Second Ray energy (Love/Wisdom) and its application in healing and as a force in nature.
Awareness of the Soul has been established at the First Initiation and the building of the bridge to connect to the Soul and beyond to the Spirit are in process of being built by intent and determination by the disciple.
There is an aspiration to Love, serve and progress upon the Path and to be an expression of these in Service within the world.
To achieve these levels has required the raising of consciousness within the mind. Again, the mind unlike the brain extends beyond and is not limited to the bony structure of the physical form we call the skull.
It has been the use of the mind and Light that the dissipation of glamor and the mastery of one’s part of the Astral plane, has been able to be accomplished.
3 Alice A. Bailey, The Rays and The Initiations, (Lucis Publishing, New York, NY 1960) p. 578 4 Alice A. Bailey, The Rays and The Initiations, (Lucis Publishing, New York, NY 1960) pp. 683-684
The conscious building of the bridge (the Antahkarana) between the lower mind and the higher mind, is driven by the aspiration to become One with the Soul at this stage of development.
“Initiation II. Baptism. Freedom from the control of the emotional nature and the selfish sensitivity of the lower self.”5
Third Initiation: (Figure 9 above)
I wish to start this section with a quote that addresses the issue and importance of freedom at this stage of attainment.
“The initiation (that of the Transfiguration) which we are next to study is one of the most important of them all. From one particular angle, it is peculiarly related to the fifth Initiation of Revelation and to the seventh Initiation of Resurrection. All three are concerned with freedom: freedom from the personality, freedom from blindness, or freedom from all the seven planes of our planetary existence—the planes which are sometimes referred to as the planes of human and superhuman evolution. You will have noted that lately, I have been emphasizing an aspect of initiation hitherto little emphasized—the aspect of freedom. The Path of Initiation has at times been called the Path of Liberation, and it is to this essential aspect of the initiatory process that I am seeking to call your attention. I have pointed out continuously that initiation is not really the curious mixture of self-satisfied attainment, ceremonial, and hierarchical recognition as portrayed by the major occult groups. It is far more a process of excessively hard work, during which process the initiate becomes what he is. This may entail hierarchical recognition, but not in the form usually pictured. The initiate finds himself in the company of those who have preceded him, and he is not rejected but is seen and noted and then put to work.
It is also a graded series of liberations, resulting in the attainment of increased freedom from that which lies behind in his experience; this carries with it the permission (soul enjoined or given) to proceed further on the WAY. These freedoms are the result of Detachment, Dispassion, and Discrimination. At the same time, Discipline enforces and makes possible the hard work required to pass the grade. All these four techniques (for that is what they are) are preceded by a series of disillusionments which, when realized and comprehended, leave the aspirant no choice but to move forward into the greater light.
I would like to have you study initiation from the angle of liberation, looking upon it as a process of strenuously attained freedoms. This basic aspect of initiation—when realized by the initiate— ties his experience into a firm relation with that of the whole of humanity, whose fundamental struggle is the attainment of that freedom “whereby the soul and its powers can unfold and all men be free because of an individually attained freedom.”6
5 Alice A. Bailey, The Rays and The Initiations, (Lucis Publishing, New York, NY 1960) pp 685-686. 6 Alice A. Bailey, The Rays and The Initiations, (Lucis Publishing, New York, NY 1960) pp 684-685.
“Initiation III. Transfiguration. Freedom from the ancient authority of the threefold personality, marking a climaxing moment in the history of all initiates.”7
As I described under the figure 9 above that the personality and the Soul are now fused and the Soul begins controlling the lower bodies via the personality’s full cooperation and alignment so much so that there are no lower body attachments or attractions to draw the personality backward. The now fused personality-soul are now being connected via the higher Antahkarana to the Spiritual Triad and the Monad (see this depicted in figure 9 above). The personality/soul is now coming under the grip of the Monadic Will.
At this point, the disciple has demonstrated a control over his/her lower bodies and the lower psychic powers, emotionalism, and glamor. A control of the focus of mind has been demonstrated and the manipulation of thought-forms that are used by the Army of the Voice as an archetype to manifest in the world of phenomenon. All this in cooperation and alignment with the Plan.
The Soul has achieved control of the lower vehicles as stated above and the personality is now guided by the Monad.
Group consciousness expands to include all life and as stated by Krishnamurti he became one with everything. “I was in everything, or rather everything was within me, inanimate and animate, the mountain, the worm, and all breathing things.”8
The disciple has reached this level by sheer hard work, perseverance, and dedication. The Self is not focused upon self-attainment but that through advancement he/she is better equipped to serve humanity and the Plan. This path for one might be following the study of the esoteric and for another, the study of science, politics, education, medicine, psychology, business or being an expression of beauty through the arts, music etc.. The path followed is directed by the personality/Soul/Monad.
There is much yet to be done as each Initiation is only the attainment of an ever-expanding field of Service and the commencement of growth in that new arena.
Unconditional love replaces conditional love as the fusion of the Soul with the personality has been achieved.
Inspiration from the Buddhic plane now floods in and illusions are being dispelled. It is also prior to taking the Third Initiation that the Dweller on the Threshold must be faced and the past accumulations are annihilated. Krishnamurti describes this as, “I set about, consciously to annihilate the wrong accumulations of the past years…the main interest on that high plane [Buddhic] was to serve the Lord Maitreya and the Masters…During that period of less than three
7 Alice A. Bailey, The Rays and The Initiations, (Lucis Publishing, New York, NY 1960) p 686 8 Phillip Lindsay, The Initiations of Krishnamurti An Astrological Biography, (Apollo Publishing, Palmerston North, NZ 2002) p. 105.
weeks, I concentrated to keep in mind the image of the Lord Maitreya throughout the entire day… I found that I was getting calmer and more serene…”9
“Disciples who have undergone the third initiation and have climbed the mount of Transfiguration can-from that high point-glimpse the radiance of the subjective centre of energy (the central spiritual sun of The Secret Doctrine) and so gain a flash of realization as to the meaning of the word “life.”10
Speaking about “life” it should be considered that at this point in our discussion to note that I have not presented anything as to the topic of the Seven Rays, the Birth Chart and the topic of Astrology or about the centers, meridians or the flows of energy in and surrounding the body.
There are energies that impact and are the cause of our existence and these the reader I hope is aware by now. If not, then I hope you are inspired to know more.
There is no way to cover such a vast topic as ourselves as energy beings and how these energies relate all of us to each other and to all that exists both in our immediate environment and our world but also to distant worlds, stars, galaxies that a person could study this for an entire lifetime and never even touch but a fragment of it all.
At the Third Initiation, the disciple sees this as stated above as if in a “Flash”. It is only a glimpse but it becomes a known rather than a theory.
I am sure I could write more than I have presented here but my purpose was to give a tool that one could get a glimpse of the path and for those that awaken to their Soul and what one’s future might look like in terms of spiritual development. Of course, there are no two people that are going to have the same experiences exactly but those that have gone before have shared their experiences and the Master DK has written extensively via the amanuensis Alice A. Bailey and the blue books to help guide the race if the reader is inclined to know more.
This ends where I wanted to end it but there is more beyond the Third Initiation. At or near this stage the disciple is accepted into the Master’s Ashram and joins with other disciples and Initiates to begin in earnest a Service to help in some way the helping of humanity and the advancing the Plan of Hierarchy and above.
After the Third Initiation, the Path of Discipleship is left behind and the Path of Initiation commences and the person becomes the Initiate.
The freedoms realized at the higher Initiations are:
“Initiation IV. Renunciation. Freedom from all self-interest, and the renouncing of the personal life in the interest of a larger whole. Even soul-consciousness ceases to be of importance and a more universal awareness, and one closer to the divine Mind, takes its place.

10 Alice A. Bailey, Esoteric Psychology I, (Lucis Publishing, New York, NY 1962) p.150.
Initiation V. Revelation. Freedom from blindness—a liberation which enables the initiate to see a new vision. This vision concerns the Reality lying beyond any hitherto sensed or known.
Initiation VI. Decision. Freedom of choice. I have dealt with these choices in an earlier part of this book.
Initiation VII. Resurrection. Freedom from the hold of the phenomenal life of the seven planes of our planetary Life. It is in reality a “lifting out of or above” the cosmic physical plane.
Initiation VIII. Transition. Freedom from the reaction of consciousness (as that word is understood by you) and a liberation into a state of awareness, a form of conscious recognition which has no relation to consciousness, as you understand that term. It might be regarded as complete freedom from sensitivity, yet with a full flowering of that quality to which we give the inadequate name “compassion.” More I cannot say.
Initiation IX. Refusal. Freedom from all possible forms of enticement, particularly with reference to the higher planes. It must constantly be remembered (and hence my constant reiteration) that our seven planes are the seven subplanes of the cosmic physical plane.”11
Conclusion: What’s the Point?
The obvious one is that there is more to know no matter where one finds oneself on the path of evolution.
The not so obvious one to me was that I now realize that telling someone of the next step forward will pretty much be falling on deaf ears. In the Bible, it is expressed as casting pearls before swine. This is not a derogatory statement associating anyone as being a pig. It is that the gift of knowledge and the shedding of light on those not ready or able to receive it is a waste of time and energy. It doesn’t mean that something can’t be done to help them, however. It is that the method and means of that help have to fit the level of consciousness of the person one is attempting to help. This, of course, applies to the level of the helper, the circumstances and many other factors that need to be considered. For example, if the one you seek to help is an average person not yet on any of the advanced paths, the type of help, if any, will have to match them at their level if the help is intended to help them become more aware.
The complexity of factors that could be included in the determination of what and how that help should be given is far beyond the scope of this paper. Just know that we have to do the best we can with what we know and hope that we can tap into Soul /Spirit light as best we can to help guide us.
What is the point? The answer is relative to where on the Path the individual is. The average person might answer this question as whatever belief they hold. If they prescribe to a belief in a

religious doctrine they might say one thing. If they do not believe in an afterlife then their answer will reflect that.
If the individual has entered the Spiritual Path, the answer will reflect where on the Path they are as well. There is likely, an awareness of Soul or Spirit and then the contents of this paper might be something they would be open to at least in theory.
It would be interesting to see at what level an individual is drawn to reading this and considering it as a possibility or a realized awareness.
When I was working on this paper it dawned on me that telling an average person how to control their emotions or to control their mind and thoughts is likely too far removed from their level of consciousness to comprehend what is said or follow suggestions or guidance. Many people that I meet are swept up in materialism and emotionalism. Racism, separation, and fear are prevalent in the world and often the lead story presented in the news and within the media today. The louder voices promoting fear and hatred seem to drown out the soft voices promoting love, compassion, unity, goodness toward others and right human relations. I realize that this is but a temporary stage as selfishness will eventually give way to selflessness and group consciousness as individuals grow in consciousness and move forward to the higher levels on the path.
I see the current political divisions along the line of levels of consciousness. Some may totally disagree with me and point out that both major political parties (in America) have those selfish individuals in their ranks that are found within average humanity and I would agree. But, it isn’t about the members of the party that I am speaking but the ideals promoted by the party. I see these as either serving the individual or a few individuals or serving the greatest number within society. The line between good and evil, The real and the unreal. The individual lower self or the Higher Self that sees others as one with themselves or the group consciousness. Helping and serving the self or helping and serving others in the alignment of Higher Principles. I don’t believe either party is free of corruption due to selfish individuals but there seems to be one moving toward a higher ideal and the other in the opposite direction.
It would be interesting to see research in this area to prove or disprove this hypothesis. This question can not be asked of those lower on the path as this is beyond their understanding, (so far). I believe that Disciples and Initiates would be best qualified to study this.
Even if we consider the mass of consciousness within the United States (and likely in the world) there are some fighting tooth and nail to stop the expansion of consciousness and are clinging to doctrines promoting separatism, selfishness and driving a wedge between groups by pushing the idea that “others should be feared”. If one uses the recent political polls that seem to indicate
those that blindly follow a leader that seems to be the “voice” of fear and hatred within American society that might give us a rough guess of approximately thirty percent of those polled. This might be a representation of those that are operating as “herd mentality”. The remaining seventy percent then might represent the levels of consciousness represented by Average humanity on the slow Path of Evolution, plus those on the Probationary Path, those on the Path of Discipleship, and those on the Path of Initiation. I am optimistic that those within Average humanity and those on the probationary path has the capacity to think for themselves and with the right methods
applied these can be raised in consciousness to either begin the Probationary Path or the Path of Discipleship. It is my opinion that methods and procedures need to be discovered that can facilitate this raising of consciousness within these groups.
On my chart, Figures 5 and 6 represent the area that contains those suffering from drug addictions, alcoholism, smoking and other harmful (destructive) behaviors including suicide. It is my belief that these individuals are in various stages of hopelessness and are ripe to begin the Path of the Soul toward their spiritual development. It was my own experience of hitting rock bottom that I, in desperation, asked for “God’s help” and the Soul (Solar Angel) answered.
This readiness to awaken is why I placed figure 5 and 6 as more advanced than those within Humanity that are content with their lives and represented as belonging to the group represented by figure 4.
The Morya Federation serves those aspirants, disciples, and initiates that are striving to advance on their Spiritual path. There appears to be a segment missing and our communities and the world is in dire need of a solution. That segment that is missing is the pre-school that lifts those below these levels. A kind of daycare or kindergarten of sorts for the training and development of young soul’s minds and giving hope and spiritual knowledge where now there is none.
